Webley - Week 12
Ladies & Youth Cups
von 228 Binton A 232 - this match got off to a perfect start with the first two shooters from both teams, Bill Fleming and Nick Williams (Avon) and Chris Reed and Andy Smith (Binton) shooting maximum points. Binton then went into the lead as their next four shooters all shot 32s. Steve Ray snatched a few points back with 33 but Binton’s last shooter Will Cemis sealed Avon’s fate when he missed only one bull for 34 points. Binton won the match with the highest team score of the week.
Binton B 216 Avenue 212 – Binton held the top of the Webley table for ten weeks but were unseated in the last round of fixtures by Avenue. It was clear they were aiming to regain the top spot from the outset of the match. Avenue held their own including 33s from Alan Crichton and Steve Garlick to finish on 212 points. Binton were also on 212 points after seven shooters with Ian Powell shooting a personal best of 34, unluckily missing one bull for his first possible. Binton had an eighth shooter, Tom Gosbell, who under pressure managed to displace their lowest scoring shooter so Binton ended up winning the match.
Home Guard 205 MEB 216 – the Home team were handicapped having to give sixteen points to the visitors and by having only five shooters. They got off to a good start with 32 from Gareth Morris later followed by 33 from Andy Morris but the rest of the team did not do so well. Paul Onions topped the score for MEB with 31 but the rest of the team had lack lustre scores, the handicap saved them from defeat.
Wilmcote 228 Clifford 225 – with a seventeen point cushion from Wilmcote, Clifford should have won this match but their reliance on two A N Other shooter’s scores of 28 saw the cushion deflate and hopes of winning fade. Wilmcote’s accuracy, shooting only bulls and fours stayed in control of the match throughout. Lester Langford and Paul Clingan shot 34s and Graham East and Sammy Skye Unitt shot 33s giving them the highest scores in the match. Clifford had just two threes on the score card but not enough bulls to secure victory.
Sadly there were only three entrants to the competitions for both the Ladies Rose Bowl and the Youth Cup which took place on 17 April. There were no surprises at the results with Alison McMillan and Lester Langford both achieving their third consecutive win in their respective competitions.
