Week 10
e
are now more than half way through this season’s air gun League Matches and
Wilmcote, last year’s winners are strongly defending their position at the top
of the table but they are getting tough challenges from Binton A and Avon, who
are currently second and third.
Wilmcote and Binton had only bulls and fours on the scorecard last week. Adam Clarke was the only shooter to score maximum points in the match but Binton’s Chris Reed and Andrew Radbourne only missed one bull each for 34s. Binton had the lead until a final rally from Wilmcote’s Jamie Clarke and Paul Clingan who also scored 34 took the match out of Binton’s reach. The final score was Wilmcote 232 Binton A 227.
Avon led all the way in their match against Binton B starting with a 34 from Bill Fleming. Steve Ray also shot 34 but Nick Williams shot his second possible in three matches. After dropping their lowest score Avon finished on 231 points. Binton shooters Joe Powell and Benn Chamberlain stayed out of the threes for 33s, as did Steve Hodges and Chris Green for scores of 31. Binton’s final score was 211 points.
Shooters from both Clifford and Home Guard had some loose shots with the highest score in the match coming from Tom Morris and Andy Morris (HG) who were unlucky to miss one bull for 34 and Martin Robinson (Clifford) who missed two bulls for 33. Home Guard won the match with 26 points.
Avenue was leading the scoring for the first half of this match which included a season best of 32 from Steve Everett. MEB’s more experienced shooters shot in the later stages and pulled points back when Marc Anderton also shot a season best of 32, and Derek Powers and Paul Onions shot 31 and 32 respectively. However it was too little too late from MEB and Avenue won the match with 202 points to MEB’s 199.
