Webley - Week 9

The SAGL Paper Target Challenge

here were no changes to the teams at the top of the Webley table despite Binton B and Avenue both losing their matches against Home Guard and Binton A respectively. The winning teams both moved up the table two spots, to push Wilmcote down to the bottom.

Binton A 230 Avenue 225. Binton got off to a flying start with 34s shot by Chris Reed and Andy Smith. Later, Will Cemis also shot 34 and with 33s from Andrew Radbourne and Michelle Dale and a season best shot of 32 from Neil Beningfield the handicap points given to Avenue were pulled back to give the team victory over Avenue who gave an average performance save for Alan Crichton who only missed one bull for 34 points.

MEB 235 Wilmcote 230. This local Derby, both teams being based at Wilmcote Social Club, was the highest scoring match last week. MEB shooters bettered their league average and with a cushion of handicap points came out overall winners despite Wilmcote’s accurate shooting which included Adam Clarke’s 34 and 33s from John Maycock, Lester Langford, Max Langford and Paul Clingan.

Avon 229 Clifford 226. Avon did well on their home target with Nick Williams shooting his seventh possible. Chris Adams and Steve Ray both shot 33s to bring their team two points for winning the match. Clifford started well with 33 from Trevor Morris and Ian Perkins was unlucky to miss one bull for 34 but having to take an A N Other score did not help their cause and when Avon’s Alison McMillan got her second possible this season, Clifford’s fate was sealed.

Home Guard 219 Binton B 218. This match was close from the start with the lead changing frequently with solid shooting from both teams. Binton looked to have the match all sewn up but Home Guard’s last man, Andy Morris shot maximum points, his sixth possible this season and his team won the match by just one point.

The Paper Target Challenge took place last Saturday at Wilmcote Social Club. Shooters had 2 cards to complete each having 8 target diagrams on them within a time limit. Competitors were split into three classes based on their season averages. The winner of Class A was Andy Smith with 90 points out of a possible 96. Collin Hayes was top of Class B with 81 points and Derek Powers was the Class C winner.
