Webley

Week 2

tratford Air Gun League (SAGL) members saw in the new year, not with fireworks but with bells ringing. Clifford’s Ian Perkins shot his first career possible and was the first SAGL member to shoot maximum points in 2018. Though seven other shooters only missed out by one point. Clifford had a smattering of threes but with handicap points, Avon though the more accurate shooters lost the match by just two shots. Clifford won 225 to Avon’s 222 and the win rocketed them from last to third position in the new Webley League table.

Avenue had only six shooters and had to rely on an A N Other score in their match against Binton A. Alan Crichton was their top shot with 33. Binton’s Andy Smith and Collin Hayes did better with 34s and Chris Reed started well with four bulls but was unlucky to miss a shot followed by a fifth bull and a four to finish on 29 from six shots. Binton were not on their best form and finished on 218 points. Avenue plodded on and with handicap points came out winners with 224 points retaining second place in the table.

Home Guard shooters Gareth and Andy Morris both missed out on possibles by one point in their match against Binton B. Home Guard were one behind after three shooters but took the lead when Lyn Brookes shot better than her league average and their final two shooters kept their shots tight but the handicap in Binton’s favour gave them a two point win at the final tally which keeps Binton B at the top of the table.

The match between Wilmcote and MEB saw the highest team score but surprisingly it was not Wilmcote who amassed the 235 points to win the match. MEB got off to a poor start but they got better with more consistent shooting which included a 34 from Paul Onions and a solid 33 from Rob Dipple. Wilmcote’s Graham East and Jamie Clarke both shot 34s and Adam Clarke shot 33 but at the final count with the handicap coming into the equation saw a clear win for MEB 235 to Wilmcote’s 225.
