Webley Week 12

Seniors & Youth Cups

ilmcote 228 Binton A 237. It was Binton that topped the team scores this week with a decisive win over their opponents. Chris Reed kicked off with a possible and three shooters, Andy Smith, Michelle Dale and Will Cemis only missed one bull each for 34s. Though Wilmcote kept their shots tight scoring only bulls and fours they did not have the luck enjoyed in previous matches and came second. Their most accurate shooters were brothers Jamie and Ashleigh Clarke with 34s. Binton have 17 league points but with a higher average than Avon they lie second in the table. Wilmcote are third with 13 points but with a very high average score it is unlikely they can do the double and win both leagues as they did in 2015/16.

Home Guard 211 Avon 220. Avon’s win put them at the top of the Webley League table with 17 points and an average of 222.83 points. Steve Ray was on form shooting his first possible this season and with just two handicap points which they did not need to win the match Avon prevailed. Home Guard with only six shooters were at a disadvantage and 33s from Gareth and Andy Morris just could not save the day.

Binton B 203 MEB 208. Beleaguered MEB struggle on with Paul Onions and Marc Anderton keeping out of the threes for scores of 32 and 30 respectively. They needed the handicap from Binton to win this match. Binton had a few threes which didn’t help their cause despite 32s from Angie Powell and Chris Green.

Avenue 205 Clifford 213. Both teams had mixed fortunes on Avenue’s new target plate and though both started with scores of 32, Clifford’s handicap of four points kept them in the lead throughout. Top scorers were Alan Crichton and Ian Perkins 33s and Trevor Morris and James Wilby 32s. Avenue’s loose threes lost this match.

SENIOR SHIELD & YOUTH CUP. Both competitions were held on 28 March at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington. Thirteen shooters participated for the Senior Shield. The rules award handicap points depending on the shooter’s age, however Graham East who dominated the evening won the trophy for the first time without the need to use his handicap points. Paul Clingan, a former multiple winner of the Senior Shield was the runner up on this occasion.

The Youth cup saw all 5 qualifying members take part in the competition. After the first round the lead was tied between Lester Langford and Joe Powell when both scored 23.3 points. In the second leg however, defending Youth champion Lester Langford managed to edge out Joe Powell to take his second consecutive Youth title with a winning score of 45.3 points.
