Week 5
he
sport is not called Bell Target Shooting for nothing and in the match between
Binton A and Wilmcote, the bells were ringing for most of the evening when the
Wilmcote team shot an amazing 239 points, only 6 bulls from a perfect score. It
is the highest team score in recent history. The all time league record is 242
which was shot in February 1981 in a match between Home Guard A and Bearley A.
To add to Wilmcote's achievement, all three of the Clarke brothers Adam,
Ashleigh and Jamie, scored possibles as did team captain Paul Clingan. Binton’s
Andy Smith shot a possible and Will Cemis 33 which contributed to a very
respectable team score of 221.
Avon vs Home Guard. Avon took an early lead which included a 34 from Chris Adams and was consolidated with a possible from Alison McMillan to give the home team 192 points and an A N Other score of 27 for a total of 219. Home Guard kept their shots tight except for a couple of threes from new shooter Tracy Pegg and kept in touch with the leaders. The pressure fell on last man Andy Morris who needed 32 to draw the match but Andy who is renowned for his scores of 34 did not disappoint and with yet another 34 brought his team to victory with 221 points.
Clifford vs Avenue. Alan Crichton’s 34 took Avenue into a three point lead but despite James Wilby’s 33 this was reduced to only one point after five shooters. Their final shooter Steve Parrack shot his second possible this season and the team finished on 214 points. Clifford’s Martin Robinson shot a season best 32 in double quick time and gave the lead to the home team. Their final shooter “TJ” Morris under pressure shot 30 which brought their score to 214. The match was a draw.
MEB vs Binton B. MEB still with only five shooters had mixed fortunes on their home target. New shooter Roger Shaw and Paul Onions were the only two to keep out of the threes for 29 and 33 respectively. Binton shot consistently with their first four shooters all scoring 30 followed by a 29 but Steve Hodges with five bulls topped the scores with 33. After adding in A N Other scores the final score was MEB 197 Binton 206.
