League - Week 9
he Snap Shoot Competition in which shooters have just one minute to fire five pellets took place on18 October at Binton Social Club. Andy Smith was the first to qualify for the final shoot off with 22 points. Lester Langford was next also with 22 points. Both qualified at the first attempt. Paul Clingan then his brother Andrew and finally Ian Perkins qualified with 23 points but it took them three or four attempts to reach the required standard. In the final, clean bulls counted as 5.1. Andrew Clingan who was the very first winner of the competition in 1993/94 won with 23.2 points and his brother was runner up with 22.2 points.
Avenue vs Binton B. Avenue got off to a ropey start but 34 from James Wilby put them back into contention and Alan Crichton shooting his first possible this season took them into the lead. Binton came back with 32 from Benn Chamberlain but with only six shooters they lost out with 206 points to Avenue’s 215. Avenue moved up a place to lie third in the League table.
Binton A vs Avon. Andy Smith led his team to victory over Avon with his fourth possible this season and solid support from Chris Reed, Gary Hooper and Will Cemis who all shot 33. Avon’s best shot of the evening was Alison McMillan who also shot 33. The final score Binton 228, the highest team score this week - Avon 215 points.
Clifford vs MEB. Clifford started well with their first four shooters staying out of the threes for good scores, the best of which was Trevor Morris with 33 then Jay Morris and Ben Withers with 32s but with some loose threes they finished on 207 points. MEB battle on with Paul Onions getting 33 and Marc Anderton 31 but with only five shooters this week they scored 192 points.
Wilmcote vs Home Guard. Gareth Morris started the match setting a cracking pace with 34 for the visiting team. Veteran shooter Graham East shot a solid 32 which gave the lead to Wilmcote. Lester Langford’s 34 and Andrew Clingan’s 33 sealed Guard’s fate for despite 32 from Alan Brookes and 34 from Andy Morris it was too little, too late and the match ended with yet another win for Wilmcote 222 to 215 points.
