Webley Week 6

& Inter League

venue 213 Binton A 229. Binton shot very well with two possibles from Andy Smith and Will Cemis they put the match out of Avenue’s reach despite them having eight handicap points in hand. The best Avenue could do was 33 from Steve Parrack and 32 from Steve Garlick.

Binton B 215 Avon 212. Steve Hodges shot a season best of 33 for Binton in this match and despite a few loose threes, the six handicap points saw them win through against Avon. Alison McMillan was on form again and was unlucky not to get a possible scoring 34.

Home Guard 215 MEB 216. Home Guard got off to a good start with 33 from Gareth Morris which was matched by a second 33 from his brother Tom later in the match but shooting below average and having to give away twenty points they were narrowly defeated by MEB. Trevor Batchelor shot a career best and Paul Onions kept out of the threes for 32 which contributed to the win by just one point.

Wilmcote 232 Clifford 231. This match saw the highest team scores this week. Clifford’s Jay Morris shot a career best of 33 but with a few loose threes the final score left the team one point behind Wilmcote. The Clarke brothers Adam and Jamie and Lester Langford each missed one bull for 34s.

eanwhile, Team Stratford have been shooting Inter League matches against Evesham and Redditch. They secured the Avon Challenge for the 4th consecutive year after an extremely close and crazy match at Badsey Club. Going in with a five shot lead, Stratford just needed to shoot consistently to retain the trophy. However some unusual shooting from the team meant that it went down to the last shooter. On the night Evesham won by 4 shots but over the two legs Stratford won a narrow victory. Andy Smith (35), Alison McMillan (34) and Alan Crichton (33) topped the Stratford scorecard, with Alison McMillan jointly winning the Bill Amos trophy with Evesham’s Adie Lewis for the highest combined score from both legs.

Team Stratford also bagged a second leg win against Redditch when the visitors shot at Wilmcote Club in January. Stratford had a 10 shot lead and with high scores from Graham East (29), Alison McMillan (29) and Will Cemis (29) out of a possible 30, the combined total meant that Team Stratford won by 14 shots, to win the trophy for the 5th consecutive year.

A massive well done to all League Representatives. Some new faces joined the ranks this year to strengthen what is already a very competitive inter-league squad.
