League

Week 1

he Stratford Air Gun League (SAGL) started its 107th season last Thursday. Over the summer the League has lost some of its seasoned shooters and would welcome new shooters to boost existing teams. The MEB team who are based at Wilmcote Social Club is particularly in need of additional team members. Anyone interested in trying bell target shooting is welcome to come along on Sunday evenings when practice sessions are held at Wilmcote from 7.30pm - contact Andy on 01789 414638 for more information.

Three shooters started the season with maximum points Michelle Dale, Adam Clarke and his brother Jamie and four shooters were unlucky missing just one bull for 34s.

Wilmcote vs Avon - The Wilmcote team, last year’s League winners, had a very good start to the season scoring 233 points, the highest team score of the week, in their match against Avon. Consistent as ever, Wilmcote shot only fours and bulls to attain their score. The visitors had a few loose shots and overall did not show the accuracy which they can achieve. Steve Ray shot a solid 33 but unfortunately, the Avon  team were out classed on this occasion scoring 209 points.

Clifford vs Binton B - both teams also had some loose shots but Binton managed more bulls. Clifford’s top shots were Trevor Morris and Jay Morris both scoring 32s and Binton’s Tom Gosbell shot 33. Binton came out winners with 212 points to 201.

Avenue vs Home Guard - The Home Guard team took an early lead in their match against Avenue with a 32 from Gareth Morris. Their shooters only had fours and bulls on the target and shot more consistently than the home team though Avenue’s James Wilby and Steve Parrack shot well scoring 34s. The final score was Avenue 209 Home Guard 223.

Binton A vs MEB - Binton A also started the season well with a score of 225 points to win against MEB who turned up with only three shooters. However sportsmanship prevailed and they did their best but the outcome was a foregone conclusion.

Matches next week Avon vs Binton A, Binton B vs Avenue, Home Guard vs Wilmcote and MEB vs Clifford.
