Webley
Week 2
venue v Home Guard: Despite having only a five man team and a handicap of 12 points Home Guard set the bar high in this match hitting mainly bulls. Gareth Morris was first to shoot and scored a possible. Tom Morris and Andy Morris both shot 34, Tim Stephens 33 and Alan Brookes 29. A N Other scores of 28 brought the total to a respectable 221 points. Avenue lifted their game too with Alan Crichton shooting his second possible in two consecutive Webley matches. Seasoned shooters Paul Lowe shot 33, Steve Parrack and Steve Garlick both shot 32. Steve Aldis, new to bell target shooting this season, shot a career best of 31 and attained a personal achievement of shooting no threes. Avenue won the match with 223 points not needing the handicap thought their final tally was 235 points.
Avon v Wilmcote: Wilmcote gave Avon 10 handicap points but they pressurised the home team throughout the match. Both teams had only bulls and fours on the scorecard but Wilmcote were more accurate with brothers Adam and Jamie Clarke both hitting maximum points and younger brother Ashleigh hitting 33. New shooter Lester Langford and seasoned shooter Paul Clingan missing only one bull each for 34. Avon with no loose shots had a bit more trouble finding the bull on their home target Colin Fulford and Steve Ray had the teams highest scores with 33s. At the final tally Avon had 229 points but were pipped at the post as Wilmcote had 230 points.
Binton B v Clifford: This proved to be a close match though Clifford had more loose shots on the target after Trevor Morris started well with 32 for the visitors. The narrow early lead was lost as Binton edged in front with a 31 from Chris Green and Steve Hodges 32. Clifford’s last three shooters, Dave Sibley, Martin Robinson and Rachael Brookes all shot 30 to pull a few points back but after discounting the lowest of their eight scores they finished on 206 points. Binton held on with only six shooters and an A N Other score of 28 plus the single handicap point they came out winners with 208 points.
MEB v Binton A: Binton had to give 24 points away in this match but they shot a fine match which started with Chris Reed shooting his second career possible and first this season. Andy Smith followed missing just one bull for 34. Wayne Harris and Gary Hooper both scored 33. John Parrott and Neil Beningfield 32. After discounting the lowest of their eight scores they finished on an impressive 230 points. MEB who struggled before Christmas to field seven shooters had a full team. Tim Onions shot a career best of 33 Kath and Fred Williams both scored 31 but with the cushion the handicap points saw MEB come out winners with 233 points.
