Ladies & Youth Cups

The shooting season ended last Thursday with the re-scheduled competitions for the Youth Cup and the Ladies Rose Bowl. Both followed the same format with entrants having five shots at each of two targets with a clean bull counting as 5.1 points.

In the Youth Cup, Sammy Skye Unitt had a marvellous first round shooting only bulls for a mini possible of 25.2 points which put her in the lead over the punter’s favourite, Lester Langford who had 23.1 points. In the second round, neither showed the same accuracy with Unitt and Langford scoring 20.1 and 22.2 points respectively but this gave both shooters 45.3 which required a five pellet shoot-off. Langford kept his eye on the bull hitting three to score 23.2 points. Unitt only managed only one dirty bull and four fours for 21 points. A challenging final competition for younger shooters but Langford succeeded in attaining his third trophy in his first season.

Sammy Skye Unitt had a busy night as she also entered the Ladies Rose Bowl competition. She was in third place after the first round with Sam Green and Alison McMillan both leading with 23.1 points. McMillan’s experience showed through in the second round hitting four bulls for 24.2 to total 47.3 points she was the clear winner of the competition. Sam Green managed to hold on to second place with 43.1 points.

The last of the team matches, the final of the Thompson Knockout Cup, took place at Clifford Chambers the previous week. League and Webley Shield winners, Wilmcote shot against Avenue who had an unfortunate start with only six scoring shots for their first shooter. Though matters improved for Avenue with 34s from Alan Crichton and Paul Lowe the team were always trailing behind Wilmcote whose consistent accuracy included 34s from Adam Clarke and Lester Langford and 33s from Ashleigh Clarke, Sammy Skye Unitt and Jamie Clarke. Wilmcote added to this season’s collection of hardware winning the match with 230 points.

Shooters are reminded that Presentation Night will be on 4 June at Wilmcote Social Club.
