Whitbread Individual

he Home Guard Club, Tiddington hosted the last three rounds of the Whitbread Individual Trophy last Thursday. Ashleigh Clarke shot three bulls which gave him 23.2 points which knocked out Wayne Harris who just could not find the bull. Alan Crichton and Will Cemis both started with a clean bull followed by a four. Cemis then got two bulls and Crichton only one clean bull. Both shooters finished on a four. Cemis with 23.1 points got through to the semi final to shoot against Ashleigh Clarke.

Andrew Clingan managed only one bull from his five shots. Richard Groom’s shots were tighter and with three clean bulls he went through to the semi final round where he met Andy Smith who dismissed his opponent, Paul Onions, when he got a mini possible. In the semi final and final rounds shooters had seven pellets and all four kept their shots tight. Clarke could only find dirty bulls and was eliminated by Cemis who shot an impressive 34.4. Richard Groom started with fours but finished with bulls but with 32.2 he was beaten by just one point by Andy Smith.

The final proved to be interesting as Cemis and Smith are usually on the same team. Both shooters started with clean bulls then Cemis hit a second followed by a four, a dirty bull , two more fours and finished with a third clean bull scoring 32.3 in total. Smith shot a four with his second pellet but followed with five bulls, two of which were clean. His total was 34.3 which meant he had won the trophy for the second time. It was a well deserved win having missed only five bulls throughout the five matches he shot in this competition.

Matches tonight in the Webley Shield Competition Avenue vs Clifford; Avon vs MEB; Binton B vs Home Guard and Wilmcote vs Binton A.

The quiz and bingo evening was great fun and raised £180 but the auction for some generous donations received from local businesses boosted this to £446 which will in due course be distributed to the league’s three nominated charities.
