4-A-Side
Quarter Finals
he quarter finals of the Four-A-Side competition were held last Thursday. The match between Let’s Be Avenue and Dad’s Army saw some excellent shooting, only bulls and fours, in what proved to be a close match which was rather tense at times but there was a good atmosphere throughout. Gareth Morris got the visitors off to a good start with a solid 33 points. He was followed by Tim Stephens who shot a second 33 and then Alan Brookes shot a third. Avenue shooters held their own with 34s from Alan Crichton and Paul Lowe and James Wilby who shot 33. Avenue had a handicap of one point which left them in the lead by just one point. It was the final shooters scores which would decide this match. Andy Morris shot only bulls for his second possible in two weeks which piled the pressure on Avenue’s Steve Parrack. Unfortunately he could not repeat last week’s accuracy and was disappointed when he shot only 32 which gave Dad’s Army a two point victory 133 to 135 points.
Binton Bees had the comfort of nine handicap points from Wilmcote’s Clarke Family Unitt. Both teams of four had a single three on the board but shot well with Adam Clarke topping the scores with 33, brothers Ashleigh and Jamie both shot 32 and Sammy Skye Unitt 29 to finish on 126. Chris Green, Benn Chamberlain and Steve Hodges all shot 32 and Ian Powell 29 which with the handicap saw them through to the next round with 134 points.
The Avon Sports bar entered two teams, Avon-A-Laugh and Avon-A-Sighter who faced each other in a very close match. Laughing’s Colin Fulford topped the scores with 33 and Richard Groom shot 32 for the Sighters and with 30 from five other shooters they both ended with 122 points but with four handicap points Sighters go forward to the semi final round.
MEB shooters had difficulty finding the bull on their home target but Binton’s Big Achiever’s did better winning the match by five points.
