League
Week 6
inton A who have the highest league average from their matches had an easy match against the struggling MEB team last week. Michelle Dale shot her first possible of the season, the eighth in her shooting career. Andy Smith missed only his third bull of the season for 34. Neil Beningfield, Will Cemis and Gary Hooper all hit 33s contributing to a total of 232 points, the highest team score this week. MEB’s Kath Williams had the highest individual score for the home team with 32 and Paul Onions and Fred Williams kept out of the threes but with too many loose shots the rest of the team had relatively low scores. This win by Binton jumped them to the top of the league table with 10 points from 6 matches and a team average of 228.50.
Wilmcote came to grief at the hands of Home Guard after a very close match. Home Guard’s Gareth Morris gave the team an early lead with 34 but then Wilmcote shooters pulled back a point, then another until Lester Langford’s 31 gave then a narrow lead. Katie Barrett and Tim Stephens shot 33s and Home Guard’s rear guard shooters ’s Tom Morris and father Andy Morris both shot 34s leaving Wilmcote needing possibles from their last two shooters, Jamie Clarke and Paul Clingan. Unfortunately Jamie Clarke missed a bull and was disappointed with 34 and though Paul Clingan shot his third possible of the season it was all over when the scores were finally tallied. Home Guard had a team total of 228 points which was one more than Wilmcote. The consequence of this match put Wilmcote into second place and Home Guard third in the league, both close on the heels of Binton with the same points but slightly lower averages 228.00 and 222.50 respectively.
Richard Groom got his first possible in Avon’s match against Clifford and Ian Perkins shot a personal best but was unlucky missing out on his first possible with 34. Clifford had an early lead in the match but saw it slip away as Avon clawed the points back in ones and twos. With stronger rear guard shooters Avon came out winners with 213 points to Clifford’s 207.
Benn Chamberlain got Binton B off to a solid start with 32 which turned out to be the highest individual score for the team. Avenue came back into the match with 33s from James Wilby and new shooter Alan Crichton and average scores from the middle ranks. Steve Parrack, Avenue’s last shooter also scored 33 which gave the team another win with 216 points to 208.
