Thompson Cup
Semi Finals
The two semi final matches in the Thompson Knockout Cup were shot on neutral targets last week.
inton A vs Avenue – Binton, the stronger team, with the second highest average in the league could only field five shooters against Avenue whose average was some thirteen points less but they made a good show with 34s from their first two shooters, Chris Reed and Andy Smith, wearing his “scorpion” jacket, who both shot 34s which left Avenue trailing by six points. Alan Crichton for Avenue was unlucky not to score a possible but he put Avenue back into the match until Binton’s Will Cemis despite expressing a no-can-do attitude shot his nineteenth career possible which brought the scores to 133 to 126. Pete Mole matched one of the A N Other scores given to Binton which left Avenue’s Paul Lowe and Steve Parrack needing to pull back 66 between them to win the match. In a nail biting finish Paul Lowe shot 33 and under severe pressure Steve Parrack shot 34 to win the match for Avenue with a final score line of 219 to 221 points.
ilmcote vs Avon – Both teams sent out six shooters for this match and A N Other 28 was awarded to each side. Wilmcote, the first team to win both the League and the handicapped Webley Shield Competition since 2001/02 were clearly looking to make it a clean sweep. Shooting only bulls and fours as might be expected Jamie Clarke missed out on a possible by one point but had the highest score in the match with 34. Clingan brothers Paul and Andy both shot 33s and the team finished on 222 points. Avon clearly missed two of their strongest shooters and apart from Colin Fulford who also just missed out on a possible with 34 shot a lack lustre match to finish on 213 six points below their League average.
The final will take place tonight at Clifford Chambers.
The re-scheduled competitions for the Youth Cup and Ladies Rose Bowl will take place on May 19 at Wilmcote Social Club. All eligible shooters are encouraged to take part.
