League
Week 1
he
Stratford Air Gun League (SAGL) started its 106th season last Thursday. Over the
summer the League has welcomed some new shooters but more are welcome to boost
existing teams so if you would like to have a go then please come along on
Sunday evenings when practice sessions are held at Wilmcote Social Club from
7.30pm and give it a try - contact Andy on 01789 414638 for more information.
The Wilmcote team, last year’s League winners, had a very good start to the
season with Adam Clarke and Paul Clingan both shooting maximum points and 33s
scored by Graham East and Jamie Clarke contributed to a team total of 230 points
and a win against Avenue whose seasoned shooters Paul Lowe and Steve Parrack
both just missed one bull for 34s.
Binton A did well on Clifford’s target. Andy Smith shot a possible. Wayne Harris
and Michelle Dale just missed one bull to give them 34 points which was a career
best for Harris. Binton also scored a total of 230 points. Clifford’s top shot
was Trevor Morris with 32 but with some loose threes the team finished with a
score of 207 points.
The Home Guard team which was based at Snitterfield last year took an early lead
in their match against Avon with a 34 from Gareth Morris. Their shooters only
had fours and bulls on the target and their final shooter, Andy Morris sealed
Avon’s fate when he shot 34 to give the team a total score of 219. Avon felt the
pressure throughout the match but 32 from Alison McMillan and Richard Groom and
Steve Ray’s 34 points proved to be too little too late. Avon lost with 214
points.
The match between Binton B who fielded six shooters and MEB who fielded five
shooters was close with first one team then the other taking the lead. Both
teams had similar scores but it was Benn Chamberlains’ 32 which won the match by
just one point for Binton.
Matches next week will see Avenue vs Clifford; Binton A vs Wilmcote; Home Guard
vs Binton B and MEB vs Avon.
