he first matches of the 2014/15 shooting season were shot on 4 September. Avon Shooting Club, Binton A and Wilmcote, last season’s top three teams all won their respective matches. Clifford Sports and Social Club’s Trevor Morris and Ian Perkins both shot 34s but with some loose shots from the other shooters, the team lost out to Avon who kept their shots tight. Avon’s Richard Groom and Steve Ray also shot 34s but with only bulls and fours and no loose shots from the other team members, Avon came out winners with 223 points. The MEB team, based at Wilmcote also had some loose shots going down to Binton A who scored 230 points which included a possible from Will Cemis and 34 from Michelle Dale. Avenue B fielded a relatively inexperienced side, including three new shooters, against the significantly more experienced Wilmcote team. Jamie Clarke shot a possible and Graham East and Adam Clarke both shot 34s. Wilmcote won with 227 points.
Last Thursday (11 Sept) teams shot less consistently and no shooter scored a possible though there were a number of shooters scoring 34 points. Paul Lowe and Steve Pattack have joined Avenue A on a temporary basis whilst the team is looking for new members. Both shot 34 when their third shot hit the four. New team member James Wilbey shot 31 and Jo Everett 30. The team came out winners in their match against MEB. MEB’s veteran shooter Gordon Spencer had a couple of unlucky shots and the teams regulars all shot 29 but new shooter Sam Dunn shot fours and bulls for 31.
The experience of Binton A’s shooters overwhelmed Avenue B’s. Andy Smith shot 34 and Will Cemis and John Parrott 33. Andrew Radbourne and Mark Taplin both shot 30, the highest scores from the Avenue B team. The final score was Binton 215 Avenue B 192 points.
A new team based at Snitterfield has entered the League this season and made their debut in a match against Clifford. Andy Morris had the best shot in the match with 34 and Tom Morris 33. The team only had one counting three and with bulls and fours finished on 221 points. Clifford had a few loose shots but Trevor Morris, Jay Morris and Ian Perkins all stayed out of the threes for 33, 31 and 30 points respectively.
Wilmcote were at home to Binton B. Wilmcote kept their shots tight apart from three loose 3s but 34 from brothers Jamie and Adam Clarke and brothers Andrew and Paul Clingan sealed the fate of Binton. Joe Powell was Binton’s highest scoring shooter with 33 and twin brother Sam Powell shot 31. Binton had only five pellets which hit the 3s but with fewer bulls than Wilmcote they lost the match 223 points to 206.
