Week 1
he competition for the Webley Shield got under way last week. Teams are handicapped based on their League averages. Avenue A got their highest score this season when they shot 13 points above their average which included Steve Parrack’s first possible in the Stratford League and 34s from James Wilby and Paul Lowe with an 18 point handicap from Wilmcote they amassed 241 points. Adam Clarke shot a possible and Jamie Clarke and Paul Clingan both scored 34s but after scratching the lowest of their eight scores Wilmcote finished on 229 points and saw their first loss since September.
Clifford visited Binton for their match. Both teams shot above their averages. Binton were very consistent with Andy Smith shooting his seventh possible and Chris Reed and Will Cemis shooting 34s. All the team scored over 31 to give them a final score of 230. Clifford’s Martin Robinson shot a career best of 33 and with one exception the rest of the team had scores in the 30s. They finished with a score twelve higher than their average and with 20 points from Binton they came out winners with 237 points.
MEB had a 10 point handicap from Avon and veteran shooter Derek Powers was the team’s top shot when he equalled his season best of 33. The team kept their shots tight only having a couple of loose threes. Avon’s Colin Fulford missed out on a possible when his fifth shot failed to ring the bell. Seasoned shooters Alison McMillan and Steve Ray both shot 33 and Sam Green shot a career best of 32. Avon shot eight above their league average and won the match by just two points with 225 to MEB’s 223.
Snitterfield had only six shooters and gave Avenue B a 24 point handicap. Avenue had a full team but struggled with too many loose shots on their home target. They finished on 220 points. Snitterfield battled on through adversity scoring well. Brothers Tom and Gareth Morris just missed out on possibles and father Andy Morris and Alan Brookes both shot 33s. With a low score for A N Other Snitterfield won the match with 222 points.

The League is holding a Quiz and Bingo night, 7.30pm start, at Wilmcote Club on 21 February to raise funds for Warwickshire Air Ambulance. Shooters and non shooters welcome only £2 each to enter. mcote Social Club and Snitterfield shooting against Avon A Go at Snitterfield Sports Club.
