Snap Shoot

Whitbread Individual Finals

League Week 12

here was a friendly but competitive atmosphere at the Avon Sports Bar on 12 November when 17 shooters participated in the Snap Shoot Challenge. This competition requires shooters to be not only accurate but also quick on the trigger with only five minutes for five shots. Eight shooters reached the required standard (22 points) to take part in the final shoot out.

Jamie Clarke at his first attempt, was the first to qualify with 23 points out of a possible 25. Adam Clarke and Alan Brookes also qualified with 23 as did Paul Clingan who had five attempts before he became the last shooter qualifying to take part in the final round.

Alan Brookes was the second shooter and with 23.1 points seemed unbeatable until Paul Clingan, the last to shoot came to the target. He shot four bulls, two of them clean and a four for 24.2 points. This won him the trophy for the eighth time since 1999/2000.

The final rounds of the Whitbread Individual Competition were shot at Snitterfield Sports Club on 26 November. Richard Groom beat Colin Fulford by just one point in his quarter final. Steve Ray shot a perfect mini possible 25.5 against Adam Clarke but did not maintain his accuracy when he met Groom. Groom won through to the final with 33.1 points. Michelle Dale and Will Cemis had a very close quarter final both shooting mini possibles but Cemis had four clean bulls giving him 25.4 to Dale’s one clean bull for 25.1 and went on to shoot against Alan Brookes. Cemis did not maintain his accuracy shooting 32 when he met Brookes who with 34.4 went into the final.

Both shooters shot two fours to start then two bulls followed by a single four and two final bulls for scores of 32 but clean bulls count as 5.1 in this competition and Brookes had two clean bulls to Grooms single so came out overall winner with 32.2 points. This was the first Cup win for Brookes and the first time Groom entered the Whitbread Competition.

League matches shot on 28 November saw Jamie Clarke and Paul Clingan shoot their first possibles this season. John Maycock and Paul Workman both shot 33 which was shot a season best for Maycock and a personal best for Workman.
