League Week 11

inton A lost their chance of retaining the League trophy, the L C Docker Cup, for the third year running when they lost their match against Avon last Thursday. Binton have held onto hopes of winning the Cup looking for a win in their return match against Avon and everything depended on the result. Avon, took an early lead, with 34 from Adam Clarke who has shown a tremendously improved performance this season, and who is likely to be a clear winner of the Ray Warnock Memorial Trophy, seemingly untouchable with his 76% improvement in his shooting. The lead was consolidated with 33 from Richard Groom and 32 from Sam Goodman. Colin Fulford kept up the pressure with another 33 and then Steve Ray shot his first possible of the season. Bill Fleming and Alison McMillan finished off the match with 32s. Binton called on the assistance of Alan Brookes who was the first to shoot for the home team, scoring 32. Chris Reed was followed by Andy Smith shooting 31 and 33 respectively. Gary Hooper shot 32 and both Michelle Dale and John Parrott scored 31. Will Cemis got his second possible of the season and Neil Beningfield was the last to shoot scoring 32. The final score Binton 226 Avon 231 – the second highest team score this season.

Clifford were at home to MEB and both teams suffered from a spate of loose shots but MEB’s Kath Williams who has been shooting for more than 10 years, shot her first ever possible and was followed in short order by Paul Onions who also shot a possible. Paul took up shooting again this season after a gap of quite a few years. Fred Williams shot 31, Tim Onions 30, Oscar Thornton shot 29 as did Paul Workman who is pleased with the way his new Hammerli rifle is bedding in. Gordon Spencer and Ray Hodgkins both shot 28. Ian Perkins was Clifford’s best shot with 33, Roy Brookes shot 32, a personal best and Jay Morris 31. Rachael Brookes and Trevor Morris both shot 30. David Sibley and Martin Robinson both shot 28. Both teams had eight shooters and after dropping the lowest of their eight scores the final result was Clifford 212 MEB 217.

Wilmcote were at home to Avenue B. Michael Clarke and Andrew Clingan both came close to getting possibles with six bulls and a four for 34. Graham East shot 33 and John Maycock 32. Andrea Norris and James Matthews both scored 30 and Tim Stephens 29. Mark and Haydn Taplin shot 31 each and Matt Clarke 30. Richard Mills got 29 the hard way with a three and two bulls. Jackie Mills and Joshua Bridge were not on form and Kay Clayton and Andrew Radborne both scored 27s. the lowest of both team’s eight scores were dropped to give a final score of Wilmcote 222 Avenue B 202.

Avenue A were able to field seven shooters and for once did not have to rely on an A N Other score for their match with Binton B. Binton’s early shooters had some loose shots and low scores which gave Avenue an early lead in the match. Joe Powell, Angie Powell and Bill Gately all shot 29. Steve Hodges 31 and anchor man Ben Chamberlain 28. With eight shooters, the lowest score was dropped which left them with 201. Avenue’s Jamie Clarke shot six bulls and was unfortunate not to put in seven but 34 was enabled the team to consolidate their lead. Jon Packard, who has not shot for four weeks shot 30. Dee Green 29 and Jo Everett struggled with a different site in the gun for 27. 207 points gave Avenue their first win of the season.
