Sports Club hosted the final rounds of the Pairs Competition on 18 March. Paul
Clingan and John Maycock put up a good performance against Adam Clarke and Colin
Fulford. Clingan shot a possible 35.1 but Maycock was not as accurate shooting
27. Clarke shot four clean bulls for his possible score of 35.4 and Fulford shot
33 which secured them a place in the final with 68.5 points.
Current holders Andy Smith and Will Cemis gave an excellent performance with
thirteen bulls from fourteen shots. Their total score of 69.8 was too good for
opponents Gary Hooper and John Parrott who shot well but not well enough scoring
63.3 points.
Clarke did not show the accuracy he did getting only 29 points in the semi
final. Fulford did better with five bulls for 33.5 which gave them 62.5 points.
Smith and Cemis repeated their first rate performance again shooting thirteen
bulls from fourteen pellets. With a score of 69.7 points they won through to
retain the Pairs trophy.
The semi final and final of the 4 Aside competition were shot at Wilmcote Social
Club on 20 March. Four shooters from MEB just could not get their eye in and
suffered from loose shots to shoot at or below their personal averages to the
extent that even with a 13 point advantage from Avon-A-Go they were knocked out
of the competition. Adam Clarke shot a possible, his eighth this season and
Steve Ray was close with 34. The Avon four were demonstrable winners with 131
points and a place in the final.
Clifford Chambers’ four had no loose shots with Ian Perkins and Jay Morris doing
well, shooting above their personal averages with 32 and 31 respectively. A
second four Avon-A-Laugh also kept their shots tight and everyone shot better
than their own average score. Mark Ellis and Bill Fleming shot 33 each and the
team won through to the final with 129 points to Clifford’s 124.
The Avon team had the final all to themselves with Avon-A-Laugh having 9 points
in hand. Steve Ray and Adam Clarke swapped scores when Ray got his sixth
possible this season and Clarke shot 34. Colin Fulford shot 32 and Alison
McMillan 30 for a total of 131 points. Avon-A-Laugh gave it their best, with
scores above average. Sam Goodman shot 33, Mark Ellis and Bill Fleming both shot
32 and Karl McMillan 28 which together with the handicap gave them 134 points.
They laughed their way to the winner’s trophy.
