Christmas Shoot
ast
Thursday shooters came together at Wilmcote Social Club for the Christmas Shoot
when the old recoil action rifles, that is rifles with no special mechanism to
absorb the kick of the gun when a shot is fired were used. The Bill Amos
Competition (this year named in memory of Bill Amos) was shot using a single
rifle, donated for the night by Paul Clingan. The competition ran with shooters
paying 50p for a go where they had 5 shots without a sighter to score as many
points as they could. The highest scorer on the night being the winner. A clean
bull, with no mark on the target counted as 5.1 points. 10% (25) of total
pellets fired hit the bull’s eye and 5% (12) scored nothing. This year Graham
East had the highest score of 21.2 and won a bottle of Whisky. Trevor Morris won
a 3-way shoot out against Michael Clarke and Jay Morris who all scored 21.1 to
become runner up when he shot a second 21.1 and he took home a bottle of Port.
The Open Competition ran in exactly the same way, however shooters could supply
their own rifles to use as long as they conformed to the conditions stated
above. This explains the varied results as different weapons were powered and
sighted differently. Scores ranged from 23.2 to a mere 4 points. Of the pellets
fired 4% (9) scored no points at all, 13% (26) scored only 2 points, 38% (78)
pellets hit the three and 35% (72) were in the four. Only 20 pellets hit the
bull, three of which were shot by Paul Clingan who won this competition with
23.2 points and he won a large bottle of Rum. Jamie Clarke hit two bulls and
earned himself the runner’s up place with 22.1 points and he took home a bottle
of Whisky.
Entry fees totalling £48.50 was collected which together with £44 from the
raffle and kind donations from shooters on the night meant that the total
collected for the League’s nominated charity totalled a round £100.
Shooting re-commences on Thursday 2nd January 2014 when shooters aged over 45
have the chance to win the Senior Cup. This competition will also be held at
