League Week 7

lifford were pipped at the post when they lost their match against Wilmcote last week. After four shooters the scores were level, then David Sibley, new to competition shooting this season, just missed out on a possible with a personal best score of 34 to give Clifford the lead. Wilmcote’s Michael Clarke shot 32 to put his team into the lead by just one point. The Clingan brothers put the seal on the match taking Wilmcote to 246 points to Clifford’s 242. However, as both teams had eight shooters, they both had to drop their lowest score which left Clifford on 215 and Wilmcote on 216 points.

Avenue B fielded four new young shooters for their match against MEB whose experience shone through. The highest score in the match came from Fred Williams with 32. Andrew Radborne and Haydn Taplin were the only Avenue shooters to stay out of the threes shooting 30 and 29 respectively. Loose shots kept scores low. The final scores MEB 206, Avenue 189 points.

The two teams based at Binton were matched against each other and both were able to field eight shooters. Binton A shot only bulls and fours with Andy Smith getting 34, Will Cemis 33, Gary Hooper and John Parrott 32. Binton B tended to keep their shots tight but did not hit the bull quite so often and with a few loose shots came second in this local derby. Steve Hodges’ 32 was the highest shot for the B team with 31 from Joe Powell. After dropping the lowest of their eight scores Binton B finished on 206 and Binton A on 223 points.

Avenue A fielded seven shooters for the first time this season for their match against Avon who had only six shooters and an A N Other score. Avon hit only bulls and fours and Richard Groom just missed out on a possible with 34. Avenue had four shooters with 29s but too many loose shots kept their scores down. Avon deserved to win with 217 points to Avenue’s 195 points.
