Webley Week 2
lifford
WMC top the Webley League table with two wins from two matches. Though they were
without their captain last week when they met the full force of Binton A, eight
shooters still turned out. Tony Waters shot a career best of 33, David Sibley
started well with four bulls but unfortunately he could not sustain this and
ended with three fours but 32 was above his league average. Trevor Morris also
shot 32 which was also above his league average. With 30 from Ian Perkins and
Ben Huckfield and 29 from Jay Morris and Martin Sibley, the team finished on 232
including 17 handicap points from Binton. Andy Smith and Will Cemis, Binton’s
top shooters this season gave a good account of themselves with 34 each both
missing the bull with their fourth pellet. Chris Reed and Michelle Dale both
shot 32. Gary Hooper and Alan Dyer 31. John Parrot’s 29 brought the teams total
score to 223.
Wilmcote also won their second match though they had to give a thirteen point
handicap to Binton B. Their top shooter Paul Clingan shot 34 again it was the
fourth pellet which missed the bull. John Maycock and Michael Clarke both shot
solid 33s James Matthews and Andrew Clingan shot respectable 32s. Andrea Norris
and Graham East hit fours and bulls for 31 points. Derek Powers’ shot a par 28
but had his score scratched as the team had eight shooters. With 226 points,
their second highest score this season they came out clear winners. Binton were
short of shooters and persuaded Roy Clarke to shoot for the first time this
season. Angie Powell who shot 32 was the only shooter to stay out of the threes
when she shot 32. Chris Green had four bulls but a three gave him 31 points. Sam
Powell and Steve Hodges both shot 30 despite shooting a loose three. Even with
the benefit of Wilmcote’s handicap they scored only 218 points.
Avon with eight shooters were at home to MEB who had only six. MEB got off to a
slow start with a par 28 from Ray Hodgkins but Oscar Thornton shot 31 being two
better than his league average. Kath Williams and Tim Onions both shot 30 and
their best shot this week was 34 from Paul Onions. Fred Williams was looking
good for a possible with five bulls but a four the a disappointing three meant
he finished with 32. An A N Other score of 28 and the handicap points from Avon
gave them 230 points. Avon shooters had only bulls and fours on the target.
Steve Ray seems to have found his mojo shooting his second possible in two
weeks. Colin Fulford was also on form shooting 34. Bill Fleming and Alison
McMillan both shot 33 and Adam Clarke and Richard Groom 32. Carl McMillan shot
30 and Mark Ellis’ score was dropped as the team had eight shooters. A total
score of 229 which is five above their average score this season meant they were
unlucky to lose the match by just one point.
The two teams based at Avenue Sports and Social Club met. Both are struggling to
get shooters to turn out this season Avenue A having only five shooters this
week. They started well at for a while kept Avenue B at bay. Jamie Clarke was
unlucky not to shoot his third possible this season and had to be satisfied with
34 which was a great lift o the teams morale. Steve Everett shot 31 despite one
loose shot Paul Nixon-Barron 30 and Dee Green par 28. Jo Everett started with a
bull but then lost concentration and four threes gave her a very low score. With
two A N Other scores they totalled 200 points. Haydn Taplin led the way for
Avenue B with a season best of 32. Matt Clarke and Andrew Radbourne both stayed
out of the threes for 30. Mark Taplin and Richard Mills both shot a bull pulled
down by a three for par 28s. Josh Bridge also lost concentration and ended with
a low score. The team also scored 200 points but with a handicap of three Avenue
B came out winners over Avenue A.
Tonight teams shoot in the first round of the Thompson Cup, a trophy donated by
Edgar Raymond Thompson who was mayor of Stratford in 1926/27 and 1927/28. Binton
B shoot against Binton A who have held the trophy for the last four years.
Avenue B meet Avenue A again. Wilmcote shoot against MEB and Clifford shoot
against Avon.
