League Week 9
he
two teams based at Avenue Sports and Social Club met last week but still
struggling to find shooters, Avenue A had to forfeit the match despite the fact
that Steve Everett shot a season best of 33, Jamie Clarke a respectable 31 and
Paul Seabury and Dee Green both shooting 30, as they had only four players. New
shooters are urgently needed and should contact Dee Green on 01789 772842. The
second team fielded eight shooters. Mark Taplin shot 31 with an unfortunate
loose three with his final pellet and Joshua Bridge 30. Richard Mills stayed out
of the threes for 29. Jackie Mills shot two bulls also for 29. The other
shooters, three of whom are shooting in their first season had too many loose
shots for high scores.
Avon SC still top the League with 18 points from 9 matches, when they made MEB
their latest victims. Adam Clarke was first to the target and set a high
standard with 34. Colin Fulford and Steve Ray shot 33s, Sam Goodman and Bill
Fleming 32s, Karl McMillan and Richard Groom both shot 30. Three MEB shooters,
Fred Williams, Paul Onions and Paul Workman all shot 31. Oscar Thornton and Tim
Onions shot 30 and both Kath Williams and Ray Hodgkins shot 29. Though MEB had
only two threes on the target to Avon’s one three, they failed to ring the bell
as often as Avon. With 224 points Avon had a convincing win over MEB with 211
points.
Binton A are still pressing hard to retain the League Cup with 16 points from 9
matches and they were away at Clifford. Roy Brookes shot a season best of 31.
Rachael Brookes and David Sibley also shot 31s. Martin Robinson had one loose
three for 29 as did Trevor Morris but Jay Morris also shot 29 but without
hitting a three. Binton had more threes than they are used to but still scored a
total of 223 points. Andy Smith and Will Cemis just missed out on possibles with
34s when in each case, their second shot just failed to ring the bell. Michelle
Dale had five bulls for 33. Neil Beningfield shot 32 as did Alan Dyer after
recovering from a three with his first pellet. Chris Reed and Bzhar Gharib have
shot better. Both teams had eight shooters and after dropping their lowest
scores the final result was Clifford 210 – Binton A 223 points.
Binton B were at home to Wilmcote. Andrea Norris was first to shoot scoring 32.
She was followed by John Maycock 29 and 31s from Tim Stephens and Graham East,
which gave the team an early lead. After a slow start, Binton pulled a point or
two back with 31s from Joe and Angie Powell. After five bulls from Steve Hodges
for 33 there were only two points between them. Paul Clingan anchor man for
Wilmcote sewed up the match with 34. Both teams had eight shooters and after
dropping their lowest scores the final result was Binton B 210 – Wilmcote 223
points.
