Norman Dale Cup &
Four-A-Side Preliminary Rounds
hooters
whose average is 30 or below from at least 2 matches, competed for the
President’s Cup at Wilmcote Social Club on 30 January. Unfortunately only eleven
shooters decided to compete so after the four shooters with the highest losing
scores shot again to make up eight matches in the first round.
The first round and the quarter finals were shot with five pellets and the last
two rounds were shot with seven. A clean bull, leaving no mark on the face of
the target scored 5.1 points.
First Round Matches: - Steve Everett won his draw with a par 20. Jay Morris shot
21.1 against James Matthews. Bill Gately started well with two bulls but ended
on a three for 21 points. His opponent, Joe Powell in contrast started with a
three but ended on a bull but fell by the wayside by one point. Karl McMillan
got the highest first round score 22.1 to eliminate Chris Green. Angie Powell
and Joe Powell both got a second chance and defeated Derek Powers and Chris
Green for places in the quarter final. Ian Perkins had a bye.
Quarter Finals: - Steve Everett managed a clean bull but Jay Morris got two
dirty bulls and won through to the semi final with 22 points. Ian Powell shot
two bulls for 22.1 which was one more than Bill Gately. Karl McMillan and Ian
Perkins had a close match with two bulls, two fours and a three but McMillan had
a clean bull which saw him through to the semi final by just 0.1 point. Angie
Powell shot against her son Joe both shot bulls and fours but Joe was more
consistent with three bulls for a place in the semi final.
Semi Finals:- Both these matches were shot with seven pellets. Jay Morris on
good form shot three bulls and four fours for 31.3 points. Ian Powell had a
couple of loose shots and went out of the competition. Karl McMillan and Joe
Powell had a much closer match in fact they both shot 31.1 which needed a
re-shoot. Second time around it was Joe Powell who came out best by the
narrowest of margins 30.2 to McMillan’s 30.1 points.
The final match was between Jay Morris and Joe Powell. Both shooters started
with a four then a clean bull. Morris managed two more bulls and three fours for
31.1 but Powell was only able to hit fours and 29.1 was not enough to win the
trophy. For the second year running, Powell was runner up.
Three preliminary matches were shot at various venues on 6 February in the
Four-Aside Charity Competition. The Avon-A-Go four shot very well with Adam
Clarke and Steve Ray both shooting 34s towards the team’s total of 132 points in
their match against Binton Bears whose best shot was Andy Smith 33. The Bears
were not as accurate as they can be losing out with 127 points. Avon-A-Go with a
handicap of 13 will shoot against Avenue B in the quarter final.
Binton B shot against Avon-A-Laugh. Bill Fleming and Karl McMillan both had a
good round with 33 each. The team did well shooting 128 points. Binton shooters
were not as accurate and though they were given 2 points it was not enough to
make a difference. Binton shooters lost the match with 123 points.
Snittercote shot against Avenue A. Brothers Andrew and Paul Clingan both shot
33, James Matthews 31 but Derek Powers was man of the match shooting 32 which is
five more than his average to total 129 points. Jamie Clarke shot six bulls but
missed out on a possible with his last shot. Paul Nixon-Barron shot a solid 32
and Steve Everett 30. With 120 points Avenue lost out and Snittercote go into
the next round against Avon-A-Laugh.
The fourth quarter final will be MEB vs Wilmcote A. All matches will be shot on
20 February.
Matches tonight Avenue A vs MEB; Binton A vs Avenue B; Clifford vs Binton B and
Wilmcote vs Avon.
