leaders Avon SC travelled to Clifford WMC for their match. Both teams were able
to field eight shooters. Adam Clarke started off the match setting a good pace
with 34. Team mates Sam Goodman and Colin Fulford also just lost out on
possibles with 34s. Steve Ray shot 33 and Richard Groom shot 32. Alison McMillan
shot 31 and husband Karl had an unlucky three to finish on 30. Clifford in the
main kept their shots tight but were not as accurate as Avon. Ben Huckfield
shooting for the first time this season had a career best of 33. Jay Morris,
Trevor Morris, Ian Perkins and Martin Robinson all shot 30s. Avon won the match
with a decisive 228 points to Clifford’s 210.
Binton A currently second in the league with eight points had eight shooters and
were at home to Avenue A who had only six. Paul Seabury opened for Avenue with
30 which was matched by Bzhar Gharib. Paul Nixon-Barron shot 31 but the rest of
the team had too many loose shots to score highly. Binton’s accuracy paid off
with 34 from Andy Smith and 32s from Gary Hooper, Michelle Dale and Will Cemis.
Neil Beningfield shot 31 and John Parrott 30. Binton scratched their lowest
score to finish on 221 and Avenue added an A N Other score for 197 points.
Wilmcote, also with eight points but a lower average than Binton A, shot against
MEB. They took an early lead with 31 from Andrea Norris and 32s from John
Maycock and Jamie Matthews. Graham East, and Andrew Clingan also shot 31.
Michael Clarke kept out of the threes for his 29 but Tim Stephens potted a three
but two bulls gave him 29 too. After scratching their lowest score they shot a
total of 215 points, three above their league average. MEB’s Kath Williams had
the highest individual shot with 32. Fred Williams shot 31 and Paul Onions and
Paul Workman kept out of the threes for 29 and 28 respectively. MEB also had
eight shooters and their adjusted score was 202, not quite as good as their
average shot this season.
Avenue B were at home to Binton B. This match started off very close with
Avenue’s Richard and Jackie Mills shooting 29 each putting the home team in
front after two shooters, but Binton lead after four shooters Mary Kent 28 and
Ian Powell 29, Chris Green 29 and Joe Powell 30. Angie Powell strengthened
Binton’s lead with 32, a career best for the third time this season. Steve
Hodges shot 30 and Bill Gately 29 which brought the team to a total of 207
points. Avenue B gave two new shooters a chance at competitive shooting, K
Clayton and C Richardson but they lacked concentration and had some loose shots
as did Irene Parsons. Avenue finished on 181 points.
Matches tonight - Avenue A vs Clifford; Avon vs Avenue B; Binton B vs MEB and
Wilmcote vs Binton A. Monday 14 October sees the first leg of an Inter League
challenge against Redditch at Wilmcote Social Club.
