League
Week 7
here
was some excellent shooting at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington last week. League
leaders Binton A started the shooting with a creditable 32 from Andy Smith. The
home team continued with their strategy of putting on Sam Goodman first and it
paid off once more with Sam scoring his second possible of the season. Steve
Hodges kept out of the threes and shot 32 but the rest of the team were less
accurate suffering from a smattering of threes, though Jackie Mills still
managed to score 30. Binton, were not to be out done and Michelle Dale shot her
first possible this season, her third career possible. The rest of the team shot
very well scoring a total of 229 points. Both teams had eight shooters and had
to drop their lowest score. Binton dropped 29, all other shooters scoring more
than 30. Home Guard dropped 25 to finish on 207 points.
The match between MEB and Clifford WMC was a close one. Again both teams had
eight shooters and dropped their lowest scores. This match also saw some
excellent shooting with career best scores of 34 from MEB’s Kath Williams and
Clifford’s Trevor Morris. There were a few loose threes from other Clifford
shooters but three team members, Ben Huckfield, Roy Brookes and Chris Ward still
managed 30 each which helped bring the team to 208 points after dropping a 27.
MEB shooters had mixed fortunes which included 32 from Jan Beattie and Fred
Williams but Sheila Clarke was very unlucky with a missed shot and a stray
pellet so her score was scratched to give MEB victory by just one point.
Binton B were at home to Avon SC who started with a personal best from Jamie
Clarke of 32 which was equalled by team mate Richard Groom and Steve Ray shot
one better. There was solid shooting from the rest of the team with only two
loose threes. Binton B’s performance lacked lustre with Sam Powell and Ben
Chamberlain shooting 30 and the rest scoring in the twenty somethings. Binton B
lost with 195 to Avon’s 218 points.
Solid shooting from Wilmcote saw them take an early lead in their match at
Avenue SSC with 32 from Paul Clingan and John Maycock and 31 from Brian Adshead.
Andrew Clingan, an engineer by trade, has fashioned a customised steel extension
to the stock and has added barrel weight to his Air Arms S400 rifle with good
results which gave him a season best of 33. Andrea Norris consolidated
Wilmcote’s lead and put the match out of Avenue’s reach also scoring 32.
Wilmcote finished on 211 points. Avenue shooters with the exception of Paul
Nixon-Barron who shot 31, all had at least one stray three though Paul Seabury
still managed 30. They finished up with 201 points.
Matches tonight Binton B vs Avenue SSC; Clifford WMC vs Wilmcote; Home Guard vs
Avon SC ( switched fixture) and MEB vs Binton A.
