Snap Shoot
&
League Week 11
he
Snap Shoot Competition in which shooters have just one minute to fire five
pellets took place on 20 November at the Avon Sports Bar. Unfortunately this
event was not very well attended with only seven shooters taking part.
Trevor Morris (Clifford), at his first attempt, was the first to reach the
required score of 22 points to take part in the final shoot off. Paul Clingan (Wilmcote),
who has previously won the competition twice in the last five years, also
qualified at his first attempt scoring 23. He went on to have further practice
attempts scoring 23 and 24 then only 20. Andrew Clingan (Wilmcote), who has been
shooting for a number of years and re-joined the league this year qualified at
his second attempt, as did Jamie Clarke (Avon) and Andy Smith (Binton A). Will
Cemis (Binton A), who has also won the competition twice in the last five years
and who currently hold the trophy, needed three attempts to reach the qualifying
standard. Unfortunately, Ian Perkins (Clifford), failed to reach the necessary
22 points and did not take part in the final shoot off.
In the shoot off, “clean” bulls counted as 5.1 points. Will Cemis was
unfortunate when he ran out of time and only got off four pellets which put him
out of the running. Andy Smith shot all fours for 20 points. Andrew Clingan’s
first shot was a clean bull but a three with his fourth pellet spoiled his
chances. Trevor Morris and Jamie Clarke both shot 21 and went into a second
place deciding match. Jamie Clarke shot 22 which included two “dirty” bulls but
Trevor Morris, though he shot a three also shot two “clean” bulls and a “dirty”
bull for 22.2 points and second place. Paul Clingan who not only shot quickly
but also accurately came out the victor with 23.2 points to give him the trophy
for the third time in five years.
Binton B travelled to Home Guard for their league match last Thursday. They
fielded seven shooters, including captain Rob Johnson who has not shot for five
weeks due to injury. He together with Chris Green and Ben Chamberlain kept out
of the threes for scores of 31 and 3o respectively. Sam Powell also shot 30 but
with three bulls and a three. Roy Clarke lifted his game for his best score in
four weeks. Joe and Ian Powell had to be satisfied with 27 each. Home Guard’s
Steve Hodges shot a solid 30 while Richard and Jackie Mills scored 29 and kept
out of the threes as did Bill Gately who shot par 28. The team’s other shooters
had a number of loose shots which resulted in low scores. Home Guard had to be
satisfied with 194 points. Binton B won the match with 203 points, their highest
score in four weeks.
Binton A and Avon SC both had eight shooters. The highest scorer in the match
was Binton’s John Parrott with 33 closely followed by Andy Smith’s 32. Binton as
accurate as ever had only two threes on the score card and one of those was
disregarded when it came to the final tally. Their total score was 215. Avon is
proving to be a solid team with Colin Fulford leading last week’s scoreboard
with 32 followed by Jamie Clarke 31, then 29 from Bill Fleming, Steve Ray,
Richard Groom and Alison McMillan. Marc Anderton had a par 28 and Adam Clarke’s
score was scratched to give a total of 207 points.
The two Wilmcote teams shot against each other on Wilmcote’s target. Fred
Williams shooting for MEB, shot a respectable 31 and Sheila Clarke 30. Jan
Beattie shot 29 and three other shooters shot par 28s. They finished on 199
points. Wilmcote had eight shooters with the honours going to Andrew Clingan 34
then brother Paul 33. Andrea Norris shot 31 and Brian Adshead 30. Paul Boazman
and Tim Stephens both shot 29. Their last two shooters scored 28. After
scratching one of the 28s, Wilmcote had a comfortable margin of victory with 214
points.
The match between Avenue and Clifford had to be cancelled as some members of the
Clifford team were stranded by the local flooding.
Matches tonight (29/11) Avenue vs Binton A (Cancelled); Avon vs MEB; Binton B vs
Clifford and Wilmcote vs Home Guard.
