week thirty six shooters paired off for the first rounds of the Pairs
Competition which was held at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington on 19 February.
Each Shooter had five pellets and a clean bull counted as 5.1 points.
Colin Fulford and Jamie Clarke ably shot their way through to a place in the
semi finals when they shot 47.3 against Fred Williams and Paul Workman; then,
scoring 47.4 against Jackie & Richard Mills and in a quarter final match, they
shot outstandingly, both shooting mini possibles to score 50.3 points out of a
maximum of 51 points.
Steve Ray and Alison McMillan, current holders of the trophy, also found
themselves a place in the semi final when they shot 47.1 against Richard Groom
and Karl McMillan; followed by a score of 49.1 against Paul Clingan and Steve
Everett.
John Maycock and Paul Boazman went out of the competition to Bill Gately and
Derek Powers who got through to the quarter finals when they shot 41.1 points.
Steve Hodges and Sam Goodman found themselves in the quarter final without
firing a pellet as their opponents forfeited their first round match.
Simon & Michelle Dale shot their way into the quarter finals when they shot 43
against Andrew Clingan and Martin Norris. The competition will be shot to its
conclusion on 26 March.
Shooters whose average is 30 or below from at least 2 matches, competed for the
President’s Cup at Wilmcote Social Club on 21 February. Mary Kent, Paul Workman,
Karl McMillan, James Matthews, Joe Powell, Irene Parsons and Derek Powers won
through for places in the first round of this competition.
First Round Matches: - Mary Kent lost out to Simon Dale who shot 23.2 including
three bulls: Paul Workman shot workmanlike for 21.1 but Mark Taplin had some
loose shots and scored 18: James Matthews and Karl McMillan had a low scoring
match, both with some loose shots but Matthews got through when he found the
bull: Roy Clarke was eliminated when Ian Perkins found two bulls to Clarke’s
one: Joe Powell shot 22 to Irene Parson’s 19: Joshua Bridge slipped a three but
with two bulls knocked out Jan Beattie who shot solid fours: Jackie Mills
defeated Derek Powers and Richard Mills saw off Bill Gately.
Quarter Finals: - Simon Dale shot well with four bulls from five pellets for
24.2 which was the highest score in this round. Paul Workman lost out shooting
two bulls and fours. Ian Perkins had the misfortune to have a miss-shot and went
out to James Matthews. Joe Powell shot impressively with a four and four bulls
for 24 points which put Joshua Bridge who was less consistent out of contention.
Jackie Mills shot 22 to husbands 18.1 for her place in the next round.
Semi Finals:- Both these matches were shot with seven pellets. Simon Dale on
good form shot an impressive five bulls and two fours for 33.1 points. James
Matthews started with a couple of loose threes and scoring 27 lost his chance
for a place in the final. Joe Powell and Jackie Mills had a much closer match.
Both shooters started with a four and went on to get four more and two bulls but
one of Powell’s bulls was clean which gave him the narrowest of victories over
the more experienced Mills. His 30.1 gave him a place in the final.
The final match was between Simon Dale, an experienced shooter who has won
several trophies during his shooting career and Joe Powell who is shooting in
his third season. The match was close with Dale shooting one clean bull, three
dirty bulls and three fours and Powell two clean bulls, a dirty bull and three
fours. Dale came out just ahead with 32.1 points to Powell’s 31.2 to win the
trophy, donated by his late father, Norman Dale in 1994.

vs Clifford and Wilmcote vs Avon.
