Week 10

ilmcote shooters went to Avon SC last Thursday for what turned out to be a very close match. Shooters kept their shots tight for some good scores on both sides. Wilmcote started the match with 32 from Brian Adshead and John Maycock which after two shooters, left Avon 2 points behind, despite a 33 from Jamie Clarke. Adam Clarke and Marc Anderton both shot 30 for Avon which after four shooters put Avon in the lead by two points. Andrew Clingan equalled his season best score of 33 which gave Wilmcote a one point lead. Colin Fulford, who has not shot for two weeks, shot a season best of 34 which gave the lead back to Avon. Paul Clingan was Wilmcote’s last man, shooting 32 to bring the score from all eight shooters 245. Richard Groom was last to shoot for Avon and his 31 gave Avon’s eight 246 points. However, with eight shooters, the lowest score from both teams was scratched. Avon’s score came down by 29 to 217 and Wilmcote’s by 27, which gave Wilmcote the match by just one point.

The two Binton teams were matched against each other. Binton B had only six shooters and needed an A N Other score of 28 but Binton A had eight shooters so had to discount their lowest score. Neither team showed their best form though they were on their home target. Chris Green, Ben Chamberlain and Joe Powell all shot 29 and Mary Kent 27 but father and son Ian and Sam Powell had some loose shots for low scores. Binton B finished on 191 points, their lowest score this season. Binton A, unusually had some loose threes but the higher scores in this match came from Will Cemis 32 and Alan Dyer 31. Binton A finished on 209 which was also their lowest score this season but was enough to maintain their unbeaten record of 10 games and 10 wins.

Home Guard did not seem to take to Clifford’s target with only two of their eight shooters staying out of the threes. Irene Parsons shot a par 28, and Joshua Bridge 29. Steve Hodges and Jackie Mills scored 29 the hard way with a three compensated for with two bulls for 29. After dropping their lowest score, Home Guard had to settle for 196 points. Clifford shooters fared a little bit better but they too had some loose shots. Trevor Morris’ first three pellets rang the bell; his fourth was a four and then another bull but his last two shots let him down. They were threes and he must have been disappointed with 30. Ian Perkins, had similar luck with one three and three bulls which also scored him 30 but this was a personal and season best score. Ben Huckfield and Tony Waters did keep out of the threes for their scores of 30 each. Clifford won the match with 198 to Home Guard 196.

The match between MEB and Avenue was dependent on the A N Other rule as both teams were short of shooters. MEB had five and Avenue six. Paul Workman and Ray Hodgkins had the highest scores in this match with 30 each and Oscar Thornton got two bulls but with a three for 29. Avenue had three shooters who kept out of the threes for 29, Paul Seabury, Jon Packard and Dee Green. The other three shooter each had a loose three but with a bull. The A N Other scores of 28 resulted in a draw, both teams scoring 198 points.
