League Week 9
t
was a great night at Avenue SSC last Thursday when shooters broke a number of
records. First to shoot was Jamie Clarke (Avon SC) who has only started shooting
airgun this season and who currently has the highest Baildham average amongst
this season’s new shooters, no doubt due in part, to his experience with various
sorts of firearms with the TA Reserve, who shot his first possible with his
Anschutz LG Match 380 rifle. Then Steve Everett (Avenue SSC) shot a season best
of 32. Later in the evening, Karl McMillan (Avon SC) and Dee Green (Avenue SSC)
both shot season best scores of 32 and 30 respectively. The final shooter of the
night, Steve Ray (Avon SC), just missed out on a possible when his last pellet
failed to ring the bell, but 34 was also a season best for him. The final score
line was Avenue 205 – Avon 223 which were the highest scores this season by both
sides.
At Binton, the home team, Binton A, also shot a total of 223 points when they
succeeded in shooting only fours and bulls in their match against Clifford WMC.
Andy Smith had the highest shot in this match with 33 and four of his team
members shot 32. The remaining team members with counting scores all shot 31.
Trevor Morris, currently Clifford’s most consistent shooter, shot 32. Ben
Huckfield and Tony Waters kept out of the threes for 30 and 28 respectively.
With only six shooters, Clifford had to rely on an A N Other score of 28 to
bring the team to a total of 199 points.
MEB also had only six shooters when they went to Tiddington to shoot against
Home Guard who had eight. For MEB, Fred Williams shot a solid 33 and Sheila
Clarke’s form returned when she shot 31. Jan Beattie and Kath Williams both
stayed out of the threes for 29. Home Guard’s Haydn Taplin equalled his personal
best when he shot 31 and three other shooters kept out of the threes with scores
of 28 and 29. Home Guard missed their “top gun” Sam Goodman and could only total
198 points, MEB with an A N Other score of 27 won the match with 200 points.
Wilmcote had eight shooters for their match against Binton B. Wilmcote only had
one three and this was from their lowest scoring shooter so did not count. The
rest of the team shot consistently with 33 from Paul Clingan and Brian Adshead
and 30 or more from other team members. Binton B were less consistent as only
Joe Powell had no stray pellets. Even Mary Kent who was Binton’s top scorer had
a three with her first pellet but she offset this with three bulls to equal her
personal best score of 30. The final score was Wilmcote 218 which was their best
score this season, Binton B 195.
Matches tonight (15/11) Avon SC vs Wilmcote, Binton B vs Binton A, Clifford WMC
vs Home Guard and MEB vs Avenue.
On Tuesday 20 November Avon Sports Bar will hold the Snap Shoot Competition when
individual shooters try as many times as they wish to reach the qualifying score
determined by the Committee (usually 22) from five pellets which must be shot
within one minute. Qualifying shooters will then take part in a shoot off, the
winner being the individual with the highest score. A clean bull counting as 5.1
points.
