EB and Binton B both had eight shooters for their match in which the Binton team brought it all together to give their best performance by far this season. Sam Powell shot a personal and season best of 32. Season best scores also came from Chris Green (33), Ben Chamberlain (32), Roy Clarke (31), Angie Powell (31) and Ian Powell (31). Joe Powell shot 29 and Mary Kent 28. MEB’s Jan Beattie also had a good night, shooting a personal best of 33 which places her second in the Improvement Tables. Oscar Thornton and Fred Williams shot 31 with Sheila Clarke, Kath Williams and Paul Workman scoring 30 which was a personal best for Workman. Veteran shooter Gordon Spencer and new shooter K Childs had too many loose threes for good scores. After deducting the lowest of their eight scores, Binton went home with two points from the match, the final score was MEB 210 : Binton B 219.

The two top teams in the league, Binton A and Wilmcote met last week. Wilmcote put pressure on the Binton team by having them shoot first, though not all the team had arrived at the start of the match. Andy Smith and Will Cemis stepped up to the plate and got the home team off to a great start with 34 and 33 respectively. Wilmcote slipped behind in the match when Brian Adshead and John Maycock both shot 31s. Binton Shooters maintained their lead with 31 from John Parrott and 30s from Michelle Dale, and Gary Hooper. Wilmcote’s middle ranks saw Paul Boazman and Andy Clingan shoot 30 and Tim Stephens par 28. Andrea Norris clawed a point back shooting 30. It became apparent that Binton would scratch Chris Reed’s 28 and Wilmcote Martin Norris’s 27 which left Wilmcote seven points behind. Neil Beningfield shot last for Binton scoring 29 which gave them a total of 216 points and this left Paul Clingan to get a score of 36 for Wilmcote to draw the match. Clingan did all that was possible ending the match with 35 points. Wilmcote lost the match by just one point.

Clifford were at home but only had six shooters for their match against Avon. Adam Clarke had a personal best of 32. Alison McMillan a season best of 32 and Steve Ray also shot 32. Jamie Clarke, Bill Fleming and Richard Groom all shot 31. Lady luck deserted Karl McMillan who started and ended on threes. Clifford captain , Rachael Brookes found her form and together with Tony Waters shot season best scores of 32 and 31 respectively. And Martin Robinson shot 30which put him third in the Improvement Table. Ben Huckfield scored 29 and two shooters had too many loose threes for high scores. With an A N Other score of 28 the final result was Clifford 197: Avon 215.

The match between Home Guard who had eight shooters and Avenue who had only six, despite Pete Mole’s return from warmer climes, was not high scoring. The best shooter on the night was Steve Hodges who shot 32. Mark Taplin and Jackie Mills both shot 31 but the rest of the Home Guard team had too many loose threes for high scores. For Avenue, Jon Packard had four bulls but a three meant he had to be satisfied with 31. The rest of the team had difficulty finding the bull and with stray threes had to make do with scores of twenty something. An A N Other score of only 24 gave Avenue a total of 194 to Home Guard’s 200 points.
