League

Week 1

he Stratford & District Air Gun League season for bell target shooting commenced last Thursday. During the summer break, a new team has been formed, Avon Shooting Club, based at The Snooker Club in Western Road and the League welcomes as many as 10 new shooters this year.

Last year’s league winners Binton A got off to a flying start with Will Cemis getting 33, the highest score of the week and 32’s from Alan Dyer and Gary Hooper. The team scored a solid 217 points and a win over MEB’s 211 points which included 32 from both Kath and Fred Williams.

Wilmcote who were struggling for shooters at the end of last season now have Martin Norris and Andrew Clingan shooting for them. Sunday night practices at the club (to which any registered shooter is welcome) paid off with a 208 point win against Clifford’s 191.

The new team, Avon Shooting Club won their first match against Home Guard 197 to 193 points. Alison McMillan shot 32 but Steve Ray could only manage a disappointing 30. Home Guard shooters held their own in the match but without a score over 30 they had to settle for second place.

Avenue, having lost two shooters this season saw the return Jon Packard and after a season out of shooting, Paul Seabury but they could only muster six shooters for their match against Binton B. Jon Packard shot 31 but three members of the team couldn’t settle to the target and only managed 24. For Binton B, Ben Chamberlain shot 31 and Mary Kent making her shooting debut shot a solid 30. The team went on to score 206 points which left Avenue in the dust.
