League

Week 5

ome Guard only had six shooters for their match against Wilmcote but they all showed determination and the team lifted their game which resulted in a career first possible for Sam Goodman which was also the first possible of the season, and season best scores from Richard Mills (32), Jackie Mills (31) and Bill Gately (29). Wilmcote’s Paul Clingan shot 33, Andrea Norris, who has had the most bulls so far this season shot 32 and John Maycock gave a season best performance with 31. Though Home Guard had to rely on an A N Other score of only 26 from Wilmcote they won the match with 211 to 209 points.

Avenue SSC met league leaders, Binton A and after three shooters, Binton were just one point in front. However, Binton’s consistency shone through and without a three on the target they finished on 215 points which included a 33 from Michelle Dale and 31 from Andy Smith, Garry Hooper and Will Cemis. Avenue’s Paul Nixon-Barron shot a personal best of 33; Jon Packard 31 and Jo Everett 30 but with a smattering of threes from most of their other shooters, they finished on 201.

Both MEB and the new Avon SC team fielded eight players for their match at Wilmcote so the lowest score from each side fell to be discounted. Avon’s Adam Clarke gave the team an early lead with 31 and the team built on this with another 31 from Bill Fleming and 32s from Colin Fulford and Richard Groom. MEB’s Jan Beattie scored 31 and Kath Williams 30 but the rest of the team struggled to find the bull and with stray threes, the team lost the match with 194 points.

Clifford WMC were at home to Binton B. Both teams had a scattering of threes and 31 was the highest score in this match from Clifford’s Martin Robinson, a personal best and Binton’s Chris Green, Rob Johnson and Ben Chamberlain. The Binton team won with 206 points to Clifford’s 199.

Preliminary and first round matches in the Whitbread Individual Trophy Competition took place at the Home Guard Club, Tiddington on Tuesday 9 October. The results will be provided next week.

Matches tonight (11 Sept) Avenue SC v Home Guard; Avon SC v Clifford WMC; Binton B v MEB and Wilmcote v Binton A.
