4-A-Side Finals
Pairs Cup &
Avon Challenge
airs
Competition – There was an unusual ending to this competition held at Binton
Social Club, in that Steve Ray & Alison McMillan and Andy Smith & Will Cemis got
through to the final round without having to shoot in semi final matches as in
neither match did their opponents put in appearances.
Smith and Cemis showed us all what bell target shooting is about when they both
shot seven bulls for scores of 35.1 and 35.2 respectively in the final against
Ray & McMillan making them worthy winners of the competition. Ray unfortunately
started with two fours followed by five bulls for 33.3 points which left
McMillan needing an impossible 37 to draw the match.
4 A-Side Knockout Competition – The final rounds of this handicapped
competition were shot at Wilmcote Sports & Social Club on 4 April. Avon A Go
gave five points to four from Home Guard but with 33 from Steve Ray and 32 from
Bill Fleming the Avon four’s score of 125 to Home Guard’s 122 got them into the
final.
Both Binton shooting teams had fours in the other semi final match which ended
in a draw with both teams scoring 126 points but the rules of this competition
awarded the game to Binton B.
The Avon A Go team were not as accurate as in the previous round. Steve Ray and
Alison McMillan both shot 32s. Bill Fleming and Peter Mole shot 28 and 27
respectively for the team to finish the competition on 119 points. The Powell
family did the Binton team proud with Joe Powell coming into his own shooting a
personal best of 33. Angie Powell and Sam Powell lifted their game too shooting
30 and 28 respectively. With a solid 31 from Ben Chamberlain and three un-needed
handicap points Binton finished on 125 points and won the competition.
Avon Challenge – The second leg was shot at Badsey RBL on Monday 8 April
with Stratford trailing by 6 points. There was some great shooting by Stratford,
which included four shooters Adam Clarke, Andy Clingan, Colin Fulford, and Will
Cemis getting 34s. Paul Clingan had trouble with his leg which hampered him a
bit but still a great team effort, the best for a long time, which gave the team
264 points. Evesham’s mother and daughter shooters, Adie and Amy Lewis both shot
possibles and it was no surprise when they shared the Bill Amos Trophy for
highest aggregate score of 69. Craig Roberts and John Richards both shot 34s.
Evesham finished on 265 leaving Stratford
just one point behind over the greater distance.
Tonight’s matches for the Webley Shield - Avenue vs Binton B; Binton A vs MEB;
Home Guard vs Avon SC and Wilmcote vs Clifford. There will be a re-arranged
match at Wilmcote on Sunday 14 April between Binton A and Avenue.
