Avon Challenge
&
4-A-Side 1st Round
he
second leg of the Avon Challenge between shooters from the Evesham and Stratford
Air Gun Leagues took place on Monday 23 January at Binton Social Club. Stratford
started 13 points behind and in reality stood little chance of winning the
competition but they put on a good show with 33 from Andy Smith, Colin Fulford
and Steve Ray. Michelle Dale shot 32, Will Cemis 31 with 30 from Simon Dale and
Gary Hooper and John Parrott’s 29 giving Stratford 251 points. Amy Lewis for
Evesham, shot impressively yet again, getting another possible to secure the
Bill Amos Cup for the 2nd year running. Rob Pitcher and Dean Baglin both shot 33
and Adie Lewis and Jaime Beadle shot 32. Paul Lewis and John Richards shot 31
each and Craig Roberts 29 to bring Evesham’s total to 256 giving them the trophy
yet again. Will Cemis was responsible for the catering which was appreciated by
all, providing pork baps, Indian bites, pizzas and French fancies, and more.
Everyone went home with doggie bags.
The only match last Thursday was the preliminary round of the handicapped 4
A-Side Competition between Binton B and Wilmcote M&Ms. Binton’s 4, mainly shot
above their average which put them in a good position. The four all were able to
stay out of the threes with Ben Chamberlain scoring 33, Sam Powell 30, Bill
Fleming and Joe Powell both shooting 29. They scored 121 points but the handicap
system gave them 8 points from Wilmcote which brought their total to 129. The
M&Ms had two substitutions when Lyn and Alan Brookes decided to withdraw from
shooting for the remainder of the season, Andy Smith and Michelle Dale stepped
in. M&Ms also stayed away from the threes and shooting above their personal
averages, they too did well with 34 from Andy Smith, Michelle Dale 33, John
Maycock 32 and Brian Adshead 30. This brought their total to 129 points, equal
with Binton, but the handicap system gave the draw to the team with the lower
average, Binton, so they go through into the next round to meet a team from MEB
on 8 March 2012.
Matches this week, 2 February, see a return to the Webley League with Avenue-RBL
at home to Binton A; Clifford WMC at home to Home Guard; Wilmcote at home to MEB
and Binton B have a bye.
