Seniors, Ladies and Youth Cups

ilmcote Sports Club hosted the competitions for the Senior Shield, the Ladies Rose Bowl and the Youth Cup last Thursday. It was a busy evening which was well organised but even so, it went on till late causing some competitors to withdraw from some competitions before the end of the night. In each of the competitions shooters had five pellets on each of two targets and clean bulls counted as 5.1 points.

The Senior Shield – saw some excellent shooting from entrants. Alison McMillan had the highest score in the first round with 24.3 with Trevor Morris close on her heels with 24.1 points. In the second round, Brian Adshead had the highest score with 23.3 points. Alison who shoots well under pressure held on to her lead shooting 23.2 and went on to win the competition with a total score of 47.5 out of a possible 51 points. Runner-up was Trevor Morris with 47.2 and in equal third place was Paul Clingan and Bill Fleming who shot 46.3 points. Alison is as far as the League records go back, the youngest “senior” to win the competition and only the second woman to do so, the first being Sheila Clarke in 1997/98.

The Ladies Rose Bowl – was defended with zeal by Michelle Dale who has held the cup for the last five years except for 2009/10. But she faced strong competition from Andrea Norris and Alison McMillan. With the first set of five pellets, both Michelle Dale and Andrea Norris had 23 points and Alison McMillan had 22 points. Keeping the pressure on, Michelle Dale shot two clean bulls on the second target to score 24.2 which won her the competition with a total of 47.2 points. Joint runners up were Andrea Norris and Alison McMillan with 45.1 points

The Youth Cup – saw five entrants with Will Cemis who holds the trophy putting up a strong defence. He was narrowly in the lead position after the first five pellets with a score of 22.1 to Sam Goodman’s 22 points. He made sure of his hold on it when he shot 24.1 with the second set of pellets. Sam Goodman was runner up with 43.1 and Sam Powell third with 40 points.

Tonight, teams compete in the first round of the Thompson Cup matches, Clifford WMC vs Avenue-RBL, Wilmcote vs Binton A and Binton B vs Home Guard. MEB have a bye.
