League Report
Week 3
ilmcote
had a bye match last week and saw themselves knocked off the top of the League
by the undefeated Binton B team who now have six points from their three matches
and who seem to have consolidated its efforts and have been shooting very well
this season. Binton were at home to Home Guard with both teams fielding eight
shooters. Derek Powers had the highest score, 31, for Home Guard and Jackie
Mills worked hard for her 30 points starting well with three bulls but she then
shot two threes. However she recovered her composure finishing with a four and
another bull. Bill Gately also shot 30 with five fours and two bulls. Richard
Mills and Steve Hodges both shot 29. Irene Parsons shot steady fours but for her
third pellet which slipped into the three for 27 points. Young shooters Haydn
Taplin and Joshua Bridge both had some loose threes. Home Guard settled for 201
points. Binton shooters were the more accurate with 32 from Jon Packard and Ben
Chamberlain. Diane Hodges who shot for the team when they were at the Mason’s
Arms has returned with all guns blazing with an impressive 32 on her first
appearance. Gordon O’nions was very pleased with his 31 and Bill Fleming had a
respectable 30. Other shooters had some loose threes but the team did well to
score 210 points, the highest score this season, which put them first in the
league table.
Binton A went to Wilmcote to shoot against the MEB team who have invested in new
target this season. Both teams fielded eight shooters, all of whom upped their
game and set the bell ringing with only fours and bulls shot by MEB and only two
threes from Binton team members. MEB’s Oscar Thornton shot a personal best of 32
which was matched by Fred Williams. Sheila Clarke, Richard Groom, Karl McMillan
and Kath Williams all shot 31. Both Ray Hodgkins and Paul Workman shot 30. After
disregarding the lowest of their eight scores MEB finished on 218 points.
Binton’s shooters returned to last season’s form with Michelle Dale just missing
out on a possible by starting with a four but then six bulls for 34. Will Cemis,
Gary Hooper, John Parrott and Andy Smith all shot 33. Neil Beningfield shot 31,
Alan Dyer 30 and Neil Bragg’s 29 ended up being scratched. This left Binton with
227points, the highest team score so far this season.
New team Clifford had their first home match of the season against Avenue-RBL.
Clifford fielded seven shooters and Avenue-RBL eight. Alison McMillan was first
to the target and she started steadily enough with good fours. She slipped a
three but pulled it back with a bull and then fours for par 28. Steve Everett,
Dee Green, Jo Everett and Peter Mole all suffered from loose shots but Guy
Ganderton Paul Nixon-Barron and Steve Ray all kept out of the threes for 31
points each. The lowest of the eight scores was dropped leaving Avenue-RBL on
200 points. Clifford are still finding too many threes and too few bulls but the
team are enthusiastically participating. Trevor Morris and Rachael Brookes
both scored 29, personal bests. Brian Smith shot mostly steady fours but Roy
Brookes struggled with the target after his first shot. Clifford finished on 177
points.
Matches this week (29 Sept) see Clifford at home to MEB; Home Guard meet Avenue-RBL
and Wilmcote will be at home trying to regain their top spot from Binton B.
