Thompson Cup Final

he penultimate match in the air gun season was shot at Wilmcote last Thursday, when the final of the Thompson Knock Out Cup saw Avenue-RBL take on League winners and Webley runners–up Binton A. Both teams fielded eight shooters. Binton won the toss and put Avenue in to shoot first. Steve Ray shot five bulls for 33. Alison McMillan’s first four pellets were all close to the bull but failed to ring the bell but with two out her last three she scored two bulls for 30. Paul Nixon-Barron started and finished on bulls for 30 as did Peter Mole. Jo Everett who has had a poor season, at least kept out of the threes and ended her shooting on a bull for 29. Dee Green kept out of the threes for 29 and Steve Everett got a bull start but two threes pulled his score down to par 28. Guy Ganderton unfortunately had two threes and ended up with his score being scratched. This brought Avenue’s total to 209 which was above their league average.

Binton’s Andy Smith shot a consistent 33. He was followed by Chris Reed who shot fours and bulls until his last shot slipped into the three for 29 which turned out to be Binton’s lowest score. Michelle Dale, John Parrott and Will Cemis all put in fours and bulls for 32. Gary Hooper started with a three but went on to do better finishing on 30. Alan Dyer started with fours and bulls but ended on a three for 30 as well. Neil Beningfield had a good end to the season when he shot bulls and fours to score 34, a season best for him. Binton totalled 223 points and won the trophy for the third consecutive year.

Tonight, 26 April, there is a tri-corner match at Wilmcote Social Club between Stratford, Evesham and Redditch. Spectators welcome – no charge.

Trophies should be returned to the Delegates Meeting on 1st May in readiness for Presentation Night which will be held at Wilmcote on Saturday 12 May.
