Week 2
venue-RBL’s first match this season saw visitors Wilmcote get off to a very good start with 34 from Paul Clingan and 32 from both Alan Brookes and Andy Morris. Tim Stephens shot better this week with a respectable 31 and Andrea Norris shot 30. Paul Boazman started with a three but finished on two bulls to give him 29. Lyn Brookes shot a par 28 the hard way with two threes and two bulls. For Avenue-RBL, Paul Nixon-Barron shot four bulls and fours for 32, Peter Mole shot a wonderful 30 despite a stray three. The team settled into par 28’s until anchor man Steve Ray shot 33 to bring Avenue-RBL’s score to 206 but it was not enough to beat Wilmcote’s 216. Their win keeps them at the top of the league table.
Binton A were at home to the newly formed Clifford team who suffered from too many stray threes for high scores. Tony Waters shot 28 and Martin Robinson’s two bulls were brought down by loose threes for 27. Other members of the team struggled to find the bull and the team had to settle for 173 points. Binton were more consistent but they have still to show the accuracy they had last season. Andy Smith, Michelle Dale and John Parrott all shot 31, Alan Dyer and Will Cemis shot 30. Gary Hooper and new shooter Chris Reed both shot par 28. Neil Bragg had the lowest of Binton’s eight scores and his 27 was scratched leaving the team with 209 points.
Binton B went to Wilmcote to shoot against MEB. This match saw husband and wife, Roy and Sheila Clarke on opposing sides. Bill Fleming and Ben Chamberlain shot bulls and fours for 32 each then Joe Powell and Gordon O’nions both shot 30. Roy Clarke, Jon Packard and Sam Powell all shot par 28s and a third member of the Powell family, father Ian, who has only taken up competitive shooting this season ended up having his score scratched as the lowest score of Binton’s eight shooters. Sheila Clarke and Richard Groom had the highest scores for MEB with 31s. Fred Williams and Ray Hodgkins put 30 each onto the target and Kath Williams shot 29 with a par 28 from newly recruited shooter Paul Workman. Karl McMillan and Gordon Spencer had bad luck hitting a number of stray threes.
