Week 9

hooters are still waiting with anticipation for someone to get the first possible of the season. Karl McMillan (MEB) came close when he started with a four followed by six bulls for 34, a personal and seasonal best. Paul Clingan (Wilmcote) gave it his best shot, aided by his specialist clothing designed to aid the shooter in holding the rifle and obtaining the best possible accuracy. He looked stunning in his outfit which included a shooting jacket, a single glove, mono lens spectacles, ear defenders and cap but it was all for nought as he was let down when his third pellet hit the four to leave him with 34 too.

Binton B had a close match against MEB. Though Binton shooters had no threes amongst their seven counting scores and MEB had four of them, MEB won the match 214 to 213 points. Sheila Clarke, Kath and Fred Williams all shot 32, Gordon Spencer scored 30, Oscar Thornton and Jan Beattie both shot 27. Though Binton’s shooters stayed out of the threes, they didn’t get as many bulls so their individual scores were not as good. Ben Chamberlain shot 32, Bill Fleming and Diane Hodges 31, Chris Green, Gordon O’nions and Roy Clarke 30 and Joe Powell 29.

There was little doubt that Binton A would win their match at Clifford WMC. Martin Robinson shot a personal best of 28 which was the same score as Trevor Morris and Brian Smith. Tony Waters had a stray three for 27 and Chris Ward and Rachael Brookes also suffered from stray threes for 26. Roy Brookes was unlucky with his score. Scorers and checkers for Binton sympathised with their opponents lack of bulls concluding that Clifford’s club gun could be a little under powered as only “clean” bulls would ring the bell on the new target whereas Binton’s pre-charged guns rang it when shooters shot “dirty” bulls.

Avenue-RBL went to Wilmcote for their match. Alison McMillan got them off to a good start with 31 which was matched by Paul Nixon-Barron. Guy Ganderton slipped a three but two bulls still gave him 29. Steve and Jo Everett and Dee Green were disappointed with their scores. Last man, Steve Ray shot 33 to bring Avenue-RBL’s score to 204. Wilmcote were without their captain, Andy Morris and had to rely on an A N Other score. Andrea Norris and Brian Adshead shot 31, John Maycock, Tim Stephens and Alan Brookes all shot 29. Wilmcote came out winners with 208 points.

Tonight, sees the remaining second round matches and quarter final matches of the Whitbread Individual Competition at Wilmcote Sports & Social Club. Full details can be found on our website www.sagl.co.uk.
