Pairs Cup
Finals
Wilmcote hosted the second part of the Pairs Competition last Thursday. Alison
McMillan and Steve Ray were matched against Andy Smith and Will Cemis.
Unfortunately, Andy Smith was not on form and thee Binton duo went out with a
score of 42.2 to 46.2 points.
In the second quarter final, John Parrott and Gary Hooper could only find the
bull once but with a three this gave them 40 points. Joshua Bridge shot very
well with two bulls for 22.1 and though his partner Haydn Taplin did not shoot
as well they found a place in the semi-final with 41.1 points.
Neither Colin Fulford not Steve & Jo Everett braved the poor weather conditions
so Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield got a pass through to the next round as did
Richard Groom and Karl McMillan.
In the first semi-final Joshua Bridge and Haydn Taplin could not maintain the
accuracy they showed in the previous round shooting 54 points. In contrast,
Alison McMillan and Steve Ray shot very well with 32.2 from Alison and 33.3 from
Steve they secured a place in the final. Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield had a
close match when they shot against Richard Groom and Karl McMillan. The two
Neils had eight bulls between them but they also shot three threes for 61.5
points. Richard Groom put in five bulls and Karl McMillan two but with a three
they scored 62.1 for a place in the final.
Alison McMillan and Steve Ray shot first in the final and they kept their eye on
the bull scoring 31.1 and 32.3 respectively. Karl McMillan shot first but an
unlucky three and just one bull gave him 28.1 points. This left Richard Groom
needing all bulls so when his second pellet failed to ring the bell he withdrew
leaving Alison McMillan and Steve Ray with the trophy.
