Week 12

here were only two matches last week as that between Binton B and Wilmcote was cancelled. MEB were at home for their match against Clifford and were able to field eight shooters to Clifford’s six. Trevor Morris got the visiting team off to a good start when he shot a personal best of 31. But the rest of the team struggled to find the bull and had too many stray threes for high scores. Chris Ward, Rachael Brookes and Tony Waters all shot 27 and Martin Robinson 26. Roy Brookes managed a bull with his fourth pellet but his fifth unfortunately missed the target all together to pull down his individual score. With an A N Other score of 28 the team finished with 186 points. MEB’s best shot was anchor man Richard Groom who equalled his personal best score with a season best of 33. Ray Hodgkins and Kath Williams both shot three bulls for 31 and Karl McMillan 30. Oscar Thornton, Paul Workman and Gordon Spencer all shot par 28’s and Jan Beattie was doing well with three bulls and a four but a missed shot left her with a disappointing 27. After dropping the lowest of their eight scores, MEB won the match with 209 points.

Avenue Sports and Social Club was gaily decorated for the festive season and there was christmassy food too with turkey, ham, cheese and cranberry tiger baps and mince pies so in keeping with the theme, the captains of both teams entered into the spirit of Christmas when agreeing that shooters assume suitable pseudonyms for the match. Avenue-RBL took an early lead when Blitzen (Paul Nixon-Barron) and Humbug (Steve Everett) shot 30 and 31 to Father Christmas’ (Richard Mills) 26 and his lead reindeer Rudolf’s (Jackie Mills) 28. The Grinch and Santa’s Helper (Guy Ganderton and Jo Everett) with 28 and 29 kept the pressure on Home Guard’s shooters Scrooge and Jack Frost (Joshua Bridge and Haydn Taplin) who scored 27 and 28 respectively. Comet’s (Sam Goodman) 33, Dasher’s (Bill Gately) 29 and St Stephen’s (Steve Hodges) 30 pulled back points for the visitors whilst Vixen (Alison McMillan), Holy Moly (Peter Mole) and Prancer (Dee Green) all shot 28 for the home team. Last to shoot was Dancer (Colin Fulford) and Twinkle (Steve Ray) who scored 34 and 33 respectively. The score from all eight shooters was 235 each, technically a draw, but it was necessary to drop the lowest score from each team. Avenue-RBL dropped 28 and Home Guard 26 which gave Home Guard victory by two points.

Matches tonight (15 Dec) Binton B vs Avenue-RBL; Clifford vs Wilmcote and Home Guard vs Binton A. MEB have a bye. The Christmas Shoot will take place at Binton Club on Tuesday 20 December and the final match of the season will take place on Thursday 22 December.
