League Report
Week 1
tratford
& District Air Gun League commenced its 101st season last Thursday. During the
summer break, the League welcomed a new team based at Clifford Chambers Working
Men’s Club. A number of shooters have transferred including Paul Clingan who has
moved to Wilmcote and Alison McMillan who has joined Avenue-RBL.
Binton B fielded a team of eight shooters for their match against Clifford
Working Men’s Club who had only six shooters and so had to rely on A N Other.
Bill Fleming had the highest score in the match with 31 followed by Ben
Chamberlain and Rob Johnson who both shot 30. Jon Packard and Chris Green both
kept out of the threes with scores of 29. There was a flurry of threes from the
rest of the team. Clifford’s Tony Waters and T Morris both shot a three but
pulled them back with bulls for 28 points each. Martin Robinson and team
captain, Rachael Brookes both shot 27 but again a flurry of threes brought down
the scores of the other shooters. The final score line 203 for Binton and 186
for Clifford.
In the match between Home Guard and MEB both sides had eight shooters. Colin
Fulford had the highest score in this match and of the week, with 33. Steve
Hodges, Bill Gately and Irene Parsons all stayed out of the threes but again too
many threes brought down scores for the rest of the team. MEB only had five
threes between them which gave them better individual scores on average. Sheila
Clarke shot 31, Richard Groom and Fred Williams 30, Kath Williams 29 and par 28
from both Karl McMillan and Ray Hodgkins gave MEB victory 203 points to Home
Guard’s 197.
Wilmcote met their old rivals Binton A in their first match. Wilmcote put two
threes on the target between them and Binton just a single three but Wilmcote
shot more bulls to come out winners. Andy and Gareth Morris, Alan Brookes and
Paul Clingan all shot 32, Andrea Norris 31, Brian Adshead 30 and John Maycock 29
were the seven scoring shooters. For Binton, Andy Smith, Michelle Dale and Will
Cemis all shot 32, John Parrott 31, Simon Dale and Gary Hooper 29 and Alan Dyer
28. Wilmcote came out overall winners with 218 points to Binton’s 213 but it has
to be said that this was not a high scoring match compared to the scores these
teams were getting last year.
Matches tonight (15 Sept) Avenue-RBL vs Wilmcote; Binton A vs Clifford; MEB vs
Binton B and Home Guard have a bye.
