4 A-Side Competition was concluded last week when the two semi final and final
match were shot at Wilmcote. Home Guard B earned their place in the first semi
final after knocking out Wilmcote RCH 129–128 and MEB A their place by
eliminating Binton B 124–121. In has to be said that Home Guard were shooting
below par and they scored 119 points. MEB on the other hand did much better and
with the advantage of seven points they won through to the final with 123
points.
In the second semi final, anther four from Home Guard who had knocked out Binton
A 130-120, though this was with a twelve point advantage, met Avenue-RBL who had
knocked out a second team from MEB 124-121. Alison McMillan shot her first
possible, Steve Ray just missed out with 34 and Paul Nixon-Barron ended with
four bulls for 31. Guy Ganderton shot par 28 which gave Avenue-RBL a clear
victory 128-119 and their place in the final.
The last match lacked lustre as both sides had some loose shots which scored
threes. MEB A’s Sheila Clarke, Kath Williams and Paul Workman shot at or below
their averages but Jan Beattie did better scoring 30 and with three advantage
points they totalled 118. Avenue-RBL also had a couple of loose shots with all
but Alison McMillan who shot 31, shooting at their average. The four won the day
by just one point 119-118 to give them the trophy.
The final round of Webley Shield matches take place tonight, 12 April, when
Clifford topping the board, meet Binton B; Home Guard meet MEB and Wilmcote meet
Binton A. Avenue-RBL have a bye.
