Week 8

ome Guard may have put pay to Binton B’s chance of glory when they won their match 210 to 207. Binton started well with another 33 from Bill Fleming and 31 from Diane Hodges and Ben Chamberlain. Jon Packard and Chris Green both shot 29 but Gordon O’nions and Roy Clarke were shooting below par and had to settle for 27. Joe Powell was unfortunate to have a miss-shot and his score was scratched. The best Home Guard could do was 32 from Bill Gately and Steve Hodges but they were supported well with 30’s from Haydn Taplin who is shooting particularly well this season, Sam Goodman and Derek Powers. Richard Mills shot 29 but Jackie Mills and Joshua Bridge also shot below par and had to settle for 27. However, this was enough to win the match. Binton have now slipped to third in the table with 8 points from 7 matches.

Binton A were at home for their match against MEB who shot below their season average. Binton kept out of the threes but MEB suffered from a smattering of them. Andy Smith had the highest score in this match with 32 and team mates John Parrott and Will Cemis shot 31. Chris Reed and Gary Hooper put in a couple of bulls for 30 but Michelle Dale who was not on form shot 29. Alan Dyer had to settle for 28 which brought Binton’s total to 211 points. Sheila Clarke was the only member of MEB who maintained her consistency, shooting 31 for the fifth time this season. Jan Beattie, who has been enjoying the rugby in New Zealand, returned to the team and shot a respectable 30 as did Fred Williams. Richard Groom shot 29 and Oscar Thornton, Karl McMillan and Ray Hodgkins all shot a three which was evened out with a bull for 28. Paul Workman did not seem to like Binton’s target and his score was dropped as the lowest of MEB’s eight shooters. Binton came out winners 211 to 204 which placed them at the top of the table with 12 points from seven matches and the highest average score 217.14. Wilmcote are in second place with equal points and a game in hand but on a lower average score of 214.5 points.

Clifford travelled to Avenue Sports & Social Club for their match. Trevor Morris was first to the target but with two unlucky threes his score was brought down to 26. However, Tony Waters had the highest score of 30 and Rachael Brookes had one unlucky three for 29. Unfortunately, the rest of the team had too many threes for high scores and the team had to settle for 177 which was below their season average. Alison McMillan shot first for the home team scoring 30 then Paul Nixon-Barron also shot 30. Jo Everett and Guy Ganderton could only find the bull once each for their scores of 29. Steve Everett shot a par 28 and Dee Green was disappointed with her score. Anchor man Steve Ray had a run of four bulls but started and finished with fours for 32 points. Avenue-RBL won 204 to 177.
