Webley Shield

Week 3

lifford WMC continued their unbeaten run for the Webley Shield when they shot against a lack lustre Home Guard team last Thursday. Steve Hodges was the only shooter on the Home Guard team to stay out of the threes for 31 though Richard Mills pulled his back by hitting three bulls for his score of 30. Bill Gately and Derek Powers both shot 29, Irene Parsons scored 28 and Jackie Mills was disappointed with her 27. Haydn Taplin brought Home Guard’s total score to 200 points. Clifford gave a very creditable performance with Trevor Morris getting the top score of 32. Rachael Brookes and Tony Waters both shot 30 with 29 from Chris Ward. Amanda Pettit and Martin Robinson both shot 28 with Roy Brookes and Brian Smith both shooting 26. Clifford dropped the lowest of their eight scores which brought their total to 203 which was enough to win the match without the need for the 22 point handicap from Home Guard.

Avenue-RBL were at home to Binton A who unusually put the home team in to shoot first. Steve Everett started the scoring off with a steady 30 and it looked as if Alison McMillan would do the same until her last pellet dropped into the three giving her 29. Paul Nixon-Barron also shot 29 when he kept out of the threes but could only find the bull once. Guy Ganderton and Jo Everett both shot par 28s and though Dee Green started with a bull she could not maintain her consistency and was disappointed with her final score. Last man in, Steve Ray, shot four bulls but his last three pellets only came close and failed to ring the bell giving him 32. Andy Smith and Gary Hooper both put 33 on the score card for Binton. Neil Beningfield shot 32 and Simon Dale and Will Cemis both scored 31 despite each getting a loose shot into the three. Chris Reed and John Parrott both shot 29 which brought Binton’s score up to 218, their lowest score in the Webley Competition so far but it was enough to beat Avenue-RBL who even with handicap points from Binton, finished on 216.

The match between Wilmcote and MEB had to be postponed as Wilmcote were short of shooters and could not field a team.

Tonight (9 February) the Pairs Competition resumes when Alison McMillan and Steve Ray shoot against Andy Smith and Will Cemis; John Parrott and Gary Hooper shoot against Joshua Bridge and Haydn Taplin; Colin Fulford and Steve Hodges shoot against Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield and Richard Groom and Karl McMillan shoot against Steve and Jo Everett in the quarter finals. The competition should be shot to its conclusion.
