old style guns were brought out again last Thursday when teams met for the
fourth week of the Centenary Competition. Wilmcote, who top the table, travelled
to meet Binton B who have yet to win a match in this competition. Threes
abounded in this match and bulls were scarce but with individual scores in the
low to mid twenties Wilmcote came out winners with 168pts. Binton B scores were
peppered with twos which resulted in individual scores struggling to get into
the twenties so they ended up on 157pts, and still looking for a win.
MEB, second in the table, had mixed fortunes in their match against Home Guard
who had a difficult time. Fred Williams and Richard Groom seem to have got the
hang of these old guns both scored 30pts with only one stray three between them.
Not all members of the team did as well as these pair with those shooting first
having the most difficulty but as the night wore on shots became tighter and the
scores increased accordingly so that MEB came out winners with 179pts. For Home
Guard, Sam Goodman gave the best performance with 29pts and four other team
members managed scores in the high twenties but even with eight shooters their
lowest counting score was in single figures. A disappointing night for the team
when they finished on 157pts.
Avenue-RBL, another team who are having problems with the old style guns were at
home to Binton A whose marksmanship showed through. Binton shooters were able to
hit 6 bulls with Neil Bragg and Will Cemis having three between them which gave
them the highest individual scores, 29pts in this match. However together the
team hit 12 fours, 14 threes, no twos and one pellet which did not score to give
them a healthy total of 184pts. Avenue-RBL were less consistent with four bulls,
23 fours, 13 threes, four twos and five pellets which did not score they
finished on 159pts.
Tonight (7 April) Binton A meet MEB in the final of the Thompson Knock-out Cup
and Home Guard meet Avenue-RBL in
the Webley match postponed from 17 March.
