had a cracking night last Thursday when they went to Wilmcote to shoot against
MEB. The team got off to an excellent start with 33 from Louise Price, a
personal and season best. Dee Green who has been suffering from a lack of
confidence and who has only shot once this season, shot 31 and Peter Mole shot
30, both were personal and season best scores. Other members of the team kept
their shots tight and kept out of the threes, with Steve Ray 34, Steve Everett
32, Paul Nixon-Barron and Guy Ganderton both shooting 30 the team amassed 220
points, equalling their best ever performance in a league match. MEB shot
marginally below their par average with 32 from Paul Clingan who was sporting a
new cap, 31 from Alison McMillan and Fred Williams, 30 shot by Jan Beattie 29's
from Ray Hodgkins and Kath Williams and finally 28 from Karl McMillan, they
totalled 210 points which gave victory and 2 well earned points to Avenue-RBL.
Home Guard and Wilmcote both fielded eight shooters for their match at
Tiddington. Wilmcote's shooters did not find the bull as forgiving as some
targets and their highest score was 32 from Brian Adshead, Tim Stephens and Paul
Boazman. Andy Morris found the target tight and shot 31 as did Alan Brookes who
scored 30. New shooter Andrea Norris and veteran John Maycock both shot steady
29's which brought the seven counting scores to 215pts. Colin Fulford did well
for the home team just missing out on a possible when his fifth pellet failed to
ring the bell. Steve Hodges lifted his game to score a season best of 32 and
though Bill Gately started with a three he shot two bulls for a better than par
29pts. Jackie Mills kept out of the threes for par 28 but Richard Mills and
Irene Parsons struggled for below average scores. Youngster Haydn Taplin
started well with a bull but lost concentration along the way getting stray
threes. The lowest of the eight score was scratched and Home Guard went down
203 to 215pts.
Binton A were the home team in their match against Binton B who for the first
time this season was able to field a full team. Throughout the match shots were
tight with only two loose threes but Binton A were able to find the bull more
often and had the higher scores. Jon Packard shot a good 32 with 31's from Bill
Fleming and Ben Chamberlain. Mike Perry and Chris Green shot steady 30's and
Roy Clarke 29. Gordon O'nions shot below par with a bad back to bring Binton
B's total to a respectable 210pts. Binton A's Gary Hooper had the highest score
in this match with 33. He was supported with 32 from Michelle Dale and Will
Cemis; 31 from Andy Smith, Simon Dale, Neil Bragg and Neil Beningfield who has
only shot twice before this season. John Parrott's 29 ended up being scratched
as the lowest of Binton A's eight scores. This left Binton A with 221pts and
keeps them at the top of the league table with 10pts ahead of Wilmcote only on
the team's average score.
The first leg of the annual two leg Avon Challenge tournament took place on Mon
25 October at Wilmcote Sports & Social Club. Evesham got off to a flying start
when Amy Lewis cleared a possible but Andy Smith for Stratford was only one
point behind her. Evesham started to pull ahead with 34's from R Pitcher and
Craig Roberts which put them six points in the lead. Their last three shooters
were not so accurate and Stratford were able to claw back the points until with
only Stratford's final shooter left, Evesham's lead had been reduced to 3pts.
Seasoned shooter Paul Clingan came to the target to shoot a possible which gave
Stratford a 2pt victory going into the second leg which will be held in early
2011. Other shooters for Evesham, Adrienne Lewis (33), P Lewis (33), R Pitcher
(34), Craig Roberts (34), Dean Baglin (32), Jamie Beadle (31) and Ian Davies
